If hot flashes and night sweats are just normal menopause symptoms, why do some women experience them before menopause, and others never experience them at all?

Hot flashes and night sweats are not the same. Hot flashes are related to the speed of a hormonal drop. A fast dip in estrogen can signal the hypothalamus, which has a thermostat that regulates body temperature. Stress can also contribute to hot flashes.

Genistein may be beneficial in blocking the receptors in the brain that trigger hot flashes and night sweats. Adequate magnesium levels are also important.

Night sweats can last significantly longer than hot flashes, sometimes lasting up to an hour. Night sweats often happen between 3 and 4 a.m. and are more related to blood sugar than hormones. Addressing blood sugar, avoiding snacking at night, following a low-carb diet, and practicing intermittent fasting can help.
