Republican officeholders are breaking with President Trump, longtime conservatives are refusing to support some Trump-backed candidates, and Republican voters increasingly sound frustrated with their own party. I examine the tariff backlash, María Elvira Salazar’s public break with Trump, Karl Rove’s Democratic endorsement, the Texas Senate race, and a devastating Fox News poll. The central question is no longer whether Republicans face a difficult midterm election. It is whether the struggle between conservative Republicans and MAGA populists has already begun.
