Does Lansing Michigan Have A River Trail Serial Killer?

Law enforcement officials in Lansing, Michigan, are actively investigating whether five recent deaths along the local River Trail are connected and potentially the work of a serial killer. The victims share distinct similarities, as all were unhoused white men between the ages of 22 and 70 who suffered blunt force injuries while resting during overnight or early morning hours. Out of the total incidents, three are officially classified as homicides, while the remaining cases involve an undetermined cause or are still awaiting formal findings from the medical examiner. Although a suspect named Edward Joseph Smith has been charged with an open murder regarding a related stabbing incident, authorities have not yet identified other culprits. Police Chief Rob Backus assured the community that officers are rigorously pursuing justice and will release further details as soon as the medical examiner completes ongoing assessments.
