In this episode of The Demonologist Podcast, Horror Movies & the Occult, host Adam Blai explores our fascination with frightening stories—especially around Halloween—and offers a Catholic perspective on the line between entertainment and spiritual influence. Adam discusses how cautionary tales can help us confront fear, danger, and mortality in a safe setting, while warning that graphic or sadistic content can leave lasting psychological impressions, particularly on children. He encourages viewers to be selective about what they watch and to recognize that movies are not reliable guides to reality. Turning to depictions of witchcraft, ghost hunting, possession, and exorcism, Adam examines how films can sensationalize spiritual subjects, distort Catholic teaching, and normalize harmful practices. He cautions against entertainment that glorifies spirit communication, violence, or the pursuit of occult power, reminding viewers that fictional stories should never substitute for sound spiritual instruction. The episode also invites listeners to look beyond horror culture and approach Halloween through remembrance of the dead, devotion to the saints, and reflection on life’s changing seasons. Adam’s central message is discernment: recognize the value of cautionary stories while avoiding content that is psychologically disturbing, spiritually misleading, or unsuitable for children.
