Dragon Ball Super: Beerus Episode 4 Review – A Mixed Bag

Dragon Ball Super: Beerus Episode 4, "The God of Saiyans," might have the best Super Saiyan God transformation we've ever seen. So why does the rest of the episode leave so much to be desired?

After two fantastic opening episodes, Kyle is starting to question the creative direction of Dragon Ball Super: Beerus. Episode 4 delivers some stunning visuals and excellent editing choices, but the uneven pacing, questionable cuts, and excessive focus on Oolong and Beerus playing rock-paper-scissors make this one a mixed bag.

This week on Dragon Ball Super Dope, we're breaking down the fourth episode of the updated Battle of Gods storyline, including why the decision to cut Vegeta's comedic moments might actually hurt his character development, how Gohan and Videl's big announcement loses some of its emotional weight, and whether the incredible Super Saiyan God ritual is enough to make up for everything else.

We also discuss the new CGI Shenron, some clever callbacks to the original Dragon Ball Super anime, Piccolo and Dende's subtle exchange during Goku's transformation, and the possibility that Toei is using this project to develop animation talent for the eventual Moro arc.

And with Episode 5, "God of Destruction and Son Goku," on the horizon, will the long-awaited Goku vs. Beerus battle get this remake back on track?

Is Dragon Ball Super: Beerus living up to its potential, or are we watching history repeat itself?
