Episode 31 – Our Holiday Survival Tool Kit

Episode 31 – Our Holiday Survival Tool Kit

In this week’s Check-In Jason speaks about his reaction to an event that turned a place that was safe to him for so many years, to a place that is no longer safe. Jason and Lorri discuss the wonderfully warm days we have experienced recently and utilizing the time to finish up some chores around the house before winter. Edward is faced with an old trigger around money and seems to be handling it better than is typical. He speaks about the financial challenge around therapy and the balance between helpfulness and financial stability. Edward also had a surprise find and sale that brought a little joy into his life, and he shares the story around that.

As the Holidays start within the next week we find ourselves dealing with potential family tension and trauma triggers from those that created our experiences in the first place. During our Deep Dive this week we offer a “Tool Kit” for the upcoming holidays, whether they are on Zoom, or in person. These are some of the tips and tricks that we use to not just survive the holidays and family time, but also to try and enjoy and thrive within that space.

Our Off the Rails this week is an homage to the bygone era of Holiday foods. From medieval food traditions that lasted well in the 19thcentury and beyond, to other cultural “delicacies” that we may find disturbing, to holiday foods from the ’50s, ’60s, and '70’s that thankfully did not make the cut in today’s food trends. We explore the interesting and sometimes funny food traditions of yesteryear.
