Tyler Seguin joins Stars Royalty | What are the Odds the Dallas Stars WIN the Stanley Cup??

On today's episode of Locked On Stars, Joey breaks down the next possible contracts for Jamie Benn, Tyler Seguin, Jason Robertson and Jake Oettinger. Benn is due for an extension after next season at the age of 35, Benn has shown a resurgence in play the last few seasons, but does that warrant a lengthy extension from Dallas? Seguin on the other hand still has a few more years left before he turn 35, but what kind of player is he in his late thirties? Another decision the Stars have to make is the extention of Jason Robertson who signed a bridge deal and will be ready for a hefty pay day. $9.5 million is not out of the question when you look at what he can provide, but how does that fit in with players such as Wyatt Johnston, Logan Stankoven who are deserving as well in the next few seasons. In the final segment, we look at Jake Oettinger who's contract expires after next season. On today's episode of Locked On Stars, we breakdown everything that went down on day one of Free Agency for the Dallas Stars. After buying out Ryan Suter and moving Chris Tanev who signed a six year deal with Toronto, the Stars had plenty of cap space to make some moves. However, those moves included right shot defensemen Matt Dumba, Illya Lubushkin and Brendan Smith on short term deals. GM Jim Nill would have loved for bigger names or talent, but was simply priced out on certain players. The Stars have glaring concerns on defense that do not feel effectively fixed by the moves yesterday and look to be a worse team today than they were a month ago. On the bright side, Dallas did ink great deals with forwards Sam Steel and Matt Duchene, plus a backup goaltender in Casey DeSmith after losing out on Scott Wedgewood who went to Nashville. It certainly is no time to panic, but the Stars will be asking a lot of players who have not had great seasons in recent memory to play big minutes next season. The offseason for the Dallas Stars got stirred up rather quickly over the weekend and Joey discusses all the moves from the past week on today's episode. Just before the draft, the Dallas Stars bought out defensemen Ryan Suter who was entering the last year of a four year deal. A move that surprised many, but opened up cap space for the Stars who were working hard to resign Chris Tanev. Unfortunately, a few day later Tanev's rights were traded to Toronto for a player and 2026 7th round pick. Reports have Tanev possibly getting a long term contract upwards of 6 years, which would be a huge risk for Dallas for a defender turning 35 next season. Now Dallas has holes on defense and only Miro Heiskanen and Esa Lindell are under contract.
