DAL vs VGK Game 4 Preview: Updates on Marchment and Radek Faksa | Can Dallas slow down Jack Eichel??

The Dallas Stars had a parade against the Minnesota Wild again this week taking down their rival 7-2 last night! On today's episode of Locked On Stars, Joey celebrates a season series in which the Stars outscored the Wild 19-5 in three games. Joe Pavelski scored the first goal on Jesper Wallstedt who made his NHL debut and it was on from there. Mason Marchment had another multi-point night, Tyler Seguin scored his 16 goal of the season and has 14 points in his last 14 games. Head Coach Pete DeBoer put on a coaching clinic against the Wild this season. Scott Wedgewood had a rather easy night in net only making 10 saves in the first two periods and picked up his 12 win of the season. After not winning a game in the new year heading into this week, these two wins against albeit a Wild team without their full roster, were key to getting the Stars back on track. Someone who has been on track this season is Pavelski. With his 465th career goal last night, he inches his was closer to the five best U.S born scorers in the NHL. Joey highlights his accomplishments and how important he has been to Dallas since joining the Stars. If you think back, letting Matt Zuccarello go to Minnesota was the only reason the Stars had the oppurtunity to get Pavelski. It sure worked out for both teams. To wrap up the episode, Joey looks ahead the upcoming schedule and how the Stars can track down Winnipeg and Colorado in the standing. The Dallas Stars young defensemen Thomas Harley has been a huge relief for the backend this season. With Miro Heiskanen going down a few games ago, the defense is in a venerable state. However, Harley is playing some of his best hockey of the season and Joey tells you why on today's episode of Locked On Stars. Pete DeBoer is utilizing at 5 on 5 since the absence of Miro, he leads the team with just under 59 minutes of time on ice at even strength. Plus the Stars have a 75.3 % xG share when he's on the ice, highest on the team. He has made such an impact and with Miro out, it allows him to establish himself as the player that deserves just as much as time as Heiskanen is getting. Next, the Stars have the tough task of trying to beat a team again after doing so a few nights before. The Minnesota Wild are in Dallas tonight looking for revenge. The Wild could start their AHL call up and first round pick Jesper Wallstedt who has been awaiting his first career NHL start. With the Wild down a lot of bodies they may look for a spark like the Stars did with Matt Murray who of course shutout the Wild on Monday night. To finish the show, Joey discusses the possibility of Jake Oettinger returning, with Matt Murray being loaned to the AHL yesterday, that could mean Otter is back or they are trying to save cap space once again. The Dallas Stars are still looking for their first win of the new year and their next oppurtunity is two straight games versus the hated rival Minnesota Wild. The discussion starts on the Stars lackluster play to begin 2024 and dropping games because of blowing leads or having to play catch up in the 3rd period. Miro's injury is much bigger because the defense has been a consistent issue for the Stars even with him in the lineup. Mason Marchment in his second season with the Dallas Stars is en route to a career year. On today's episode of Locked On Stars, Joey highlights the offensive numbers for Marchment and how they stack up against others on the Stars high powered offense. He's currently top five in points and ranks among the top in Expected Goals and Goals Per 60 while also being a physical presence. Not only is he on pace to break career highs in goals, assists and points, but he's drawn the most penalty minutes on the team by quite a margin. Like Tyler Seguin, he has certainly reaped the benefits of the Matt Duchene signing. The next topic revolves around tonight's game versus the Colorado Avalanche. The Avs are very top heavy, but with players like Nathan MacKinnon, Mikko Rantanen, and Cale Makar you can win a lot of games. This matchup is a huge test for the Stars at home coming off a game they should have been able to win if they did not surrender a three goal lead after scoring 11 seconds into the game. The final segment is another update on Jake Oettinger, who left his last start with a lower body injury on December 15. Head Coach Pete DeBoar changed the status from week-to-week, to day-to-day and stated that he is getting better every day. He has begun skating and doing more which is a great sign since Scott Wedgewood is going to make his 9th straight start. Wyatt Johnston and Jason Robertson score with the extra attacker late as the Stars made a late push but fall to the Montreal Canadiens 4-3. The Canadiens best players, Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield and Juraj Slafkovsky all had big nights to help Montreal snap a three game losing skid. On today's episode of Locked On Stars, the main takeaway from the loss it multi goal deficits. The Stars have been in that position too many times this season, in a game they should have won and we're clearly the better team they are unable to get points. Joey applauds the effort to even make it a one goal game, but at some point those deficits will catch up to you. Special teams was the deciding factor in the game, Caufiled's tally on the man advantage was the game winner and at the time extended the Canadiens lead to 4-1. The Stars had a chance to tie the game at two in the 2nd period, but came up empty in a key situation that has happened all too often. The final segment was the player of the game, Wyatt Johnston finally scored a goal after 16 games without one and picked up an assist on Jamie Benn's goal 11 seconds into the game. Wyatt Johnston has gone 16 straight games without a goal, and just had four assists in the month of December. On today's episode of Locked On Stars, Joey answers the burning question how can the Stars get Wyatt Johnston to produce again? Johnston has not played bad by any means, some would say he has been unlucky with some of the chances he's had to score lately. Joey thinks the Stars need to think about breaking up his line involving Jamie Benn and Evgenii Dadanov. The trio has scored 8 goals at five on five this season, just 3 ahead of the fourth line which does not have the same amount of fire power, plus they rank as one of the worst lines in all of hockey in Goals per 60 minutes. Joey believes adding someone like Sam Steel to join Benn and Johnston could help them be more effective, since the whole line has not been as effective since December. We have more news on Jake Oettinger who is now skating, but Pete DeBoer said he is farther away then closer. Joey speculates the possible return for Otter and why they are going to be extra cautious in the next few weeks.
