In the Vault tells the eerie tale of George Birch, an undertaker in the small New England town of Peck Valley. Known for his careless and unprofessional behavior, Birch finds himself in a macabre predicament when he becomes locked inside a burial vault with no way out.

Desperation sets in as he struggles to find an escape. In his frantic attempts, he decides to stack coffins to reach the only opening in the vault—a small, barred window. As he stands on the unstable pile of coffins, a terrifying realization dawns on him: the bodies he is trampling over belong to those he had wronged in life with his negligent practices.

The vault becomes a tomb of retribution as the restless spirits seek their vengeance. The final, chilling twist reveals that Birch's escape from the vault comes at a horrifying cost, leaving readers with a sense of dread and the feeling that some actions, even in death, do not go unpunished.
