The library purge has begun! Drift into peaceful slumber as we venture through Chapter 6 of Don Quixote, where Cervantes crafts one of literature's most brilliant meta-moments.

While our knight-errant sleeps blissfully unaware, the well-meaning curate and barber raid his library, determined to discover which books transformed an ordinary gentleman into a delusional knight-errant.
The scene unfolds with delicious humor as the housekeeper, convinced these volumes contain dangerous magic, begs to burn them all while arming herself with holy water to combat their enchantments.

What follows is Cervantes' masterful literary critique disguised as storytelling. Book by book, the curate renders judgment—some volumes worthy of preservation for their artistry, others condemned to flames for their corrupting nonsense.
Modern listeners will recognise this as an ancient form of literary criticism, wrapped in fiction, as Cervantes (through his characters) evaluates real, contemporary works that were popular in his day.
The moment turns particularly meta when the characters discover "The Galatea" by Miguel de Cervantes himself, offering a self-deprecating commentary that reveals the author's remarkable self-awareness.

This chapter brilliantly captures Renaissance anxieties about the power of literature while simultaneously celebrating it.
