Episode #288: Connie Zack: Infrared Insights: From Heavy Metal Detox to Cardiovascular Health

Episode #288: Connie Zack: Infrared Insights: From Heavy Metal Detox to Cardiovascular Health

Is your body’s detoxification system craving the heat of an infrared sauna?

I am joined by Connie Zack the co-founder of Sunlighten to discuss the incredible longevity, detoxification, cardiovascular health, and immune system benefits of infrared saunas.

We explore the difference between traditional sauna and how IR Saunas are truly light and energy therapy coupled with heat, generating deep benefits in the areas of detoxification, recovery and much more.

You will learn about the different wavelengths of infrared and the benefits that each delivers, and surprising information about how hot you really need to get (spoiler alert, not nearly as hot as you think) to get the benefits of infamous heat shock proteins - powerful antiaging compounds that are produced by the body in response to extremes in temperature.

Connie Zack, an entrepreneur, wellness enthusiast, wife, and mother, Connie regularly speaks at events around the world and served on the P&G Women’s Board to cultivate a practice of mentoring young women and supporting their professional development. She continues to guide and encourage female entrepreneurs.

In 2002, after seeing how spending time in an infrared sauna supported her brother's healing from traumatic health issues, Connie and her husband, Aaron, left thriving corporate careers and made a commitment to research-backed innovation that enabled them to revolutionize the infrared sauna industry.

Sunlighten now has operations in 13 countries, including the award-winning day spa at the company headquarters in Kansas City. Sunlighten saunas are recommended by the world’s top health experts and elite athletes.

Episode #187: How to Heal Your Body with Regenerative Medicine

Episode #187: How to Heal Your Body with Regenerative Medicine

What if there was a magical potion for enhanced energy?   In this episode of the Biohacking Superhuman Performance podcast, Dr. John Lieurance Venture walks us through the evolution of regenerative medicine, from the simplest form of cod liver oil to the innovative treatments of today. Dr. Lieurance enlightens us on the wonders of platelet-rich plasma, exosomes, bone marrow stem cells, and how they can speed up the healing process and enhance overall health. What's more, we dive into the power of V cells, and how they can work in conjunction with these treatments for greater healing efficiency.   We also delve deeper into the world of methylene blue and melatonin, exploring their diverse applications from suppressing microbial replication to boosting mitochondrial activity. Lastly, we the alchemy of combining methylene blue and melatonin, forming a 'magical potion' for enhanced energy and depression aid.    Dr. John Lieurance, a renowned Chiropractic Neurologist with over 22 years of experience in Sarasota, has gained significant attention for his groundbreaking Functional Cranial Release (FCR) procedure. He masterfully blends therapies that address the three pivotal pillars: Identity, Divinity, and Vitality.  Beyond FCR, Dr. Lieurance's holistic approach to health and wellness is evident in his dedication to his craft, which extends beyond his clinic at Advanced Rejuvenation. Thus, finding the cause of this inflammation in the body is the first step to healing. Afterwards, turning to regenerative medicine is key for undoing the damage caused by the inflammation. Excessive nitric oxide production, often in response to inflammation, can lead to oxidative stress and damage to brain cells. This oxidative stress is believed to contribute to the development of depression and other mood disorders. Research has demonstrated that B cells play a role in tissue repair and remodeling by secreting factors that influence inflammation, fibrosis, and regeneration. Thus, if you are experiencing inflammation in the lungs, addressing the inflammation that is happening in the first place and then using B cell therapy to regenerate the lung tissue may be your best bet for healing.

Episode #186: How To Become Fitter in Less Time with REHIT Fitness Workouts with Ulrich Demplfe

Episode #186: How To Become Fitter in Less Time with REHIT Fitness Workouts with Ulrich Demplfe

Ever heard of REHIT fitness?   In this episode of the Biohacking Superhuman Performance podcast, our guest Ulrich Dempfle shares his quest to replicate this high-intensity, short-duration workout technique that requires a mere 24 minutes of your week. Ulrich shares about the nuanced science behind REHIT and the challenges he faced in finding the right equipment.   As we navigate the world of REHIT, Ulrich reveals the surprising benefits of this workout routine. From increasing your VO2 max by 12% - which is comparable to a two-year boost in healthy life expectancy - to a whopping 62% reduction in your METZ score, a risk factor for metabolic diseases like type 2 diabetes. We get into the nuts and bolts of REHIT, discussing how it's less mentally draining than traditional workouts, accommodates your current fitness level, and is ideal for those dealing with cortisol and adrenal fatigue.   Ulrich Dempfle is the CEO and co-founder of the Carol Bike, a game-changing exercise equipment that offers efficient workouts in just a few minutes. In this episode, we discuss the psychological resistance to shorter workouts and how the Carol Bike overcomes this by delivering effective results in a short time. It’s scientifically proven to deliver superior health and fitness benefits compared to normal exercise—in 90% less time. Maximal oxygen consumption (VO2 Max) is a measure of the maximum amount of oxygen that an individual can utilize during intense physical activity. It is often used as an indicator of a person's cardiovascular fitness and aerobic endurance. Studies demonstrate that only a 12% improvement in VO2 Max is equivalent to a 2 year increase in life expectancy. Given that we lose about 10% of VO2 Max per decade as we age, this is an immense improvement. Sprints are more beneficial than traditional workouts. When you push your limits during sprints, your muscles are forced to mobilize about 25-30% of muscular glycogen—your emergency energy reserve—releasing key signalling molecules (AMPK and PGC-1a), telling your body it must get fitter and stronger. As a result, you develop more mitochondria, your blood plasma volume increases, and your heart gets stronger. The end result is an increased aerobic and anaerobic capacity.

Episode #185: Unlocking the Secrets of the GABA Neurotransmitter with Dr. Scott Sherr

Episode #185: Unlocking the Secrets of the GABA Neurotransmitter with Dr. Scott Sherr

Why is GABA, a neurotransmitter that's vital for regulating our feelings, emotions, thoughts, and experiences, often overlooked in the world of neuroscience?    In this episode of the Biohacking Superhuman podcast, I ponder this question with Dr. Scott Sherr, a repeat guest, who unravels the mystery surrounding GABA’s key role in our mental well-being. We venture into the complex labyrinth of the GABA system, elucidating its significance in controlling the firing of neurons, its connection to a leaky blood-brain barrier, and the implications for those of us entrenched in the hustle and bustle of life.   Dr. Sherr and I also put under the microscope the intriguing world of supplements and drugs. We peel back the layers on how they interact with the GABA system and the potential mental health risks they harbor. From the influences of alcohol, Xanax, barbiturates, and sleep drugs on the GABA system to natural alternatives, we left no stone unturned. Moreover, if you're on SSRIs, you might find our explorations on supporting the GABA system and rebalancing emotions, thoughts, and feelings very enlightening.   In the concluding part of our conversation, we touch upon the intriguing effects of nicotinol GABA, THC, and CBD. We assess the potential benefits of Trozzy, an innovative sleep aid supplement. As the saying goes, 'Sleep is the golden chain that ties health and our bodies together.' Therefore, we also shed light on the importance of good sleep habits and natural ways to enhance the GABA system. While GABA is all over the brain, they're also in a place that are called interneurons. Interneurons are these waystations between neurons that help regulate the processing of information, both downwards and upwards. This is extremely important for how we regulate our emotions, how we regulate our feelings, how we regulate our interactions with other people, and then how we process our thoughts, how we process our experiences, both in the now and also in the past and the future. We may not realize it, but a lot of us are actually GABA deficient. GABA deficiency is a big deal because it's associated with depression, anxiety, and compulsive disorder. It's potentially contributing to things like schizophrenia, mental illness, and alcoholism.  We know that SSRIs work on some level to help with mood regulation. However, they do not work right away. It requires anywhere from four to eight weeks for the antidepressant effects to kick in.  On the other hand, GABA compounds work right away and elevates your mood.

Episode #180: Scott Kannedy - How can Red Light and Infra Red Light Therapy support faster healing & increased energy?

Have you ever considered that the secret to healing your body might be as simple as flipping a switch? Today, we're joined by Scott Kannedy, an authority in photobiomodulation, who enlightens us on the power of red and near-infrared light in catalyzing the body's own healing process. Listen in as we navigate the fascinating world of light therapy, and how it aids in enhancing our body's energy production, thereby balancing our systems and helping manage an array of health concerns.   In our journey of discovery with Scott, we delve into the wonders of nitric oxide and reactive oxygen species, learning about their significant roles in our bodily functions. We also explore the intriguing concept of how stress can actually impel our bodies to become stronger and more efficient. Unravel the relationship between red light therapy, photobiomodulation, and inflammation, and how these can bolster the efficiency of the microbiome for weight loss.    As the discussion unfolds, we learn about the use of methylene blue in photobiomodulation and its intriguing photosensitivity to red light. And if you've ever wondered about the efficacy of light therapy devices, Scott gives us a balanced view of the pros and cons, along with some practical advice on budget considerations, consistency, and the best timing for therapy sessions.    Scott Kennedy is the founder of LightpathLED and has brought panels to the market that are very different from the competition. It's a systemic issue that's expressing itself through the skin.   The best time to use red light therapy is whenever you can. In order to fully benefit from it, you need to use it consistently.  There is a difference between red light and infrared light. Red light only goes a bit beyond skin deep and that's because it's absorbed mainly by the blood. Once it hits that capillary bed under the skin, that's about as far as it goes. Now there's always systemic effects, because we get all the benefits of increased ATP, and that information gets delivered to deeper parts of the body. However, infrared light goes significantly deeper than red.
