Biodegradable and compostable plastics, often labeled as such, may not always live up to their claims and can end up in landfills, where they release harmful greenhouse gases. Harvesting algae from excessive algal waterways and using it to create biodegradable products, like flip-flops and packaging materials, is a promising and eco-friendly approach. To help address the plastic problem, individuals can reduce their single-use plastic consumption, properly recycle plastic materials, and support initiatives that promote sustainable alternatives like algae-based products and responsible waste disposal.
