Trump’s Monroe Doctrine 2.0: Cuba, Venezuela Targeted in Hybrid War

Trump’s Monroe Doctrine 2.0: Cuba, Venezuela Targeted in Hybrid War

Cuba and Venezuela are in the crosshairs of the new Trump administration, and Trump has already put Cuba back on the heavily sanctioned state sponsor of terrorism list without reason. With declarations of a “Monroe Doctrine 2.0” and threats to seize the Panama Canal, the sovereignty of all of Latin America is at stake.

Brian is joined by Manolo De Los Santos, the executive director of The People’s Forum in New York, to discuss the tactics used in this hybrid war by U.S. imperialism against the country, which possesses the largest oil reserves in the world.

The Real Story: What North Korea Wants and What the American People Don't Know About the Korean War

North Korea fires tactical short range missiles in a recent missile test and the American media has proclaimed this to be a major provocation testing the Biden administration. Donald Trump met twice with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in two summits, one in Singapore and the other in Hanoi, but those summits resulted in failure. What’s next in US policy towards North Korea? Brian will follow up on this discussion with a second part of the episode coming soon!

March 19 marks the 18th anniversary of the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq. Brian is joined by Mike Prysner, the producer of The Empire Files. Mike is also a co-host of the podcast Eyes Left, a podcast hosted by two anti-war Army veterans of the Afghanistan and Iraq wars. The Real Story: Socialist Debates & Political Struggles in the Anti-War Movement: From Gulf War to Today

The Real Story: Socialist Debates & Political Struggles in the Anti-War Movement: From Gulf War to Today

Brian Becker reviews the history of heated debate within the socialist movement over the necessity of taking a principled, anti-imperialist position in opposition to the U.S. war machine. Almost 18 years ago, George W. Bush launched the invasion of Iraq, a conflict that would ultimately take the lives of over a million Iraqis. Whether and how to oppose this war -- and others like the 1991 Gulf War or the 2011 war on Libya -- has been a persistent topic of debate.
