Ep 09: Sex & Borderline Personality Disorder, Body Dysmorphia, Eating Disorder with Jillian Lawrence

Jillian Lawrence is a 25-year-old cis-gender Bisexual/Queer Woman from Cape Coloured South Africa. She is also a Libra Sun, Gemini Moon.

Jillian has dealt with mental health issues since her early teens as she developed a more troubling and negative relationship with herself. Dysthymia or high-functioning depression and general anxiety contributed to a history of self-harm/mutilation, body dysmorphia and eating disorders (or vulnerability to a full-blown eating disorder). Struggling to come to terms with her sexual identity and orientation were key factors to her mental health journey due to being raised in a conservative Christian home and Cape Coloured (Coloured South African) culture. In 2014, Jillian went to therapy directly to deal with her self-harm addiction. Through continued therapy, Jillian also began to notice signs of borderline personality disorder.

Since then, Jillian has been able to notice unhealthy patterns and work to change them for the better. She has also worked to develop a more loving relationship with herself, which has helped her to be more comfortable with her body sexually.
