Thomas DeLauer, Can Keto Reduce Inflammation? How Much Protein on Keto? Biggest Keto/Fasting Mistakes :KKP 121

Celebrity trainer, entrepreneur, and author, Thomas DeLauer. Thomas was hyper-focused on his business… a successful business at that, but he was afraid to step away or divert in any way towards anything else. As a result he was overweight. The only thing that getting healthy would do would shift time away from what mattered to him most (money and providing for his family). He had the hard-wiring to be excellent at both physical performance and business… They could complement each other. He became obsessed with homing in on exactly what made him an excellent businessperson. Thomas applied discipline and knowledge to his health and made some promises to himself. In a rather short amount of time, he went from being 280 lbs to 185 lbs and on the covers of some of the largest health and fitness magazines in the world. Now, he writes for some of the largest fitness publications in the world as an expert in diet, nutrition, and mindset. Thomas became a coach after he knew that he could provide what was needed to get the world’s best businesspeople the results that they need to be a better spouse, feel better, perform better, and increase their bottom line. The best part is so much of this can be done without dramatically changing your life, and seeing the optimization take place in his clients is sincerely the reason he continues to do this. Nowadays, Thomas lives in Santa Barbara, CA with his wife, four dogs, and three horses. They enjoy an active, outdoor life that allows them to optimize every aspect of their lives. In this episode, Thomas Delauer dives deep into his story and why the fitness industry dropped him. Thomas decided to speak about health and fitness on his YouTube and Facebook; people ended up loving what he was saying. Thomas talks about how inflammation can lead to weight gain; he describes ways keto can be anti-inflammatory and pro-inflammatory. Plus, Thomas reveals the biggest mistakes made in the ketogenic diet and the biggest mistakes made when fasting. His story is fantastic, so he was able to get on the cover of magazines. However, Thomas realized the fitness industry was all about looks. How you look should only be a reflection of how you feel on the inside. Thomas realized he needed to bridge the gap between health and fitness. The fitness industry dropped Thomas because he was no longer speaking about what they wanted to hear. When Facebook changed their algorithms, Thomas decided to work on YouTube to get his message out. If you put a YouTube video out, people will be able to find it for years. [09:25] How Inflammation Leads to Weight gain LDL and chemicals will pool up in your blood and cause damage. Our gut is a fragile ecosystem. When our lipopolysaccharides get into the bloodstream, they create a world of hurt. If you have heard of leaky gut, then you know what Thomas is talking about. When you are inflamed, your gut cells will become inflamed. Your gut will become weak and disrupted. They will block your ability to process glucose. Eventually, it leads to insulin resistance, which will lead to weight gain. You can change a lot with your diet, but you can change more with your lifestyle. [13:00] What Can Cause Leaky Gut It depends on the person. Dairy and grains can be issues. Anytime you consume something so much, your body starts to develop an immune response to it. Anything can be inflammatory. High fructose corn syrup is a big problem. Almonds can cause inflammation in one person and cause no problems in another person. [15:30] How Keto Can Be Anti-inflammatory and Pro-inflammatory Keto can be anti-inflammatory because ketones are a signaling device. Ketones are a fuel, like a macronutrient. However, they also transmit a signal that helps reset the body. Ketones have the ability to communicate to reduce inflammation. The purpose of keto is to try and control inflammation. When you start eating too many omega 6 fats and low-quality oils, you will develop a problem. Omega 6s are from soybean oil, sunflower oil, and canola oil. They are already rancid. Some omega 6s are good. When they are unstable, and in abundance, it will cause inflammation. [27:00] The Three Biggest Mistakes with Keto Consuming too many Omega 6s. People freak out too much about protein. Eating processed foods. If you are consuming a lot more calories because it’s processed, then it’s going to be easier to overeat. [34:00] Staying In Ketosis Too Long If you go for too long, you can make yourself glucose intolerant. Your body can reject the glucose and send your blood sugar too high. This will happen until your body can adapt to glucose again. You should be cycling in and out of ketosis. What happens when you reduce your fat intake and increase carbs? The body starts pulling fat from your body. We are always changing [37:40] The Biggest Fasting Mistakes Breaking a fast improperly is a mistake. You are so sensitive to what you consume. When you break a fast, keep it lean and clean. Do not go sloppy when you break your fast. Keto coffee and bulletproof coffee will break your fast. 500-600 calories of fat will break your fast. Over ten calories or so will break a fast. People get addicted to fasting. There is a binge and purge type of mentality. Fasting should be healthy, not something to deprive ourselves. It should help us challenge ourselves and make us stronger. Do not fast when you are sick. [42:30] Do What Works For You Some people have various strategies for different things. For instance, some people don’t listen to Thomas because they may not agree with his keto content, but they agree with his fasting content. We don’t all have to agree on everything. AND MUCH MORE! The Brain & Heart Connection, Busting Self Limiting Beliefs, Love & Gratitude – Sean Croxton KKP 18

The Brain & Heart Connection, Busting Self Limiting Beliefs, Love & Gratitude – Sean Croxton KKP 18

Today’s episode might be a little bit different than all of the previous ones. Still, it is as insightful as ever, especially because I am joined by the mastermind behind the Keto Kamp movement. I am humbled to be joined by Sean Croxton, a podcast host, author, entrepreneur, and prosperity teacher. I followed his growth and career for the past 8 years, most especially when he still hosts the Underground Wellness Radio, one of the internet’s most popular health podcasts.   During his seven years with Underground Wellness, Sean penned the still-popular Dark Side of Fat Loss ebook, started the JERF (Just Eat Real Food) movement, and hosted seven online summit events, including The Thyroid Sessions, Digestion Sessions, and The Depression Sessions.   Now, Sean is the host of The Quote of The Day Show, the #1 daily motivational podcast, featuring short inspirational teachings from the best of the best speakers. He is also the creator of Money Mind Academy, an 8-week course that will completely change your relationship with money.   In this episode, Sean shares the story of how his hardwork and determination got him to where he is today. He also explained the science behind developing a habit while we dive deep into physiology, neurocardiology, brain chemistry and how it is connected with your keto diet and fasting. Tune in! In this episode, you'll discover:   [00:55] Sean Croxton, the early years Sean’s mother worked three jobs. By the time he wakes up in the morning, his mom is already at work. When he goes to bed at night, his mom is still at work.  “If I didn’t have that experience of living at the poverty line, I probably wouldn’t have the value that I have on abundance.” His early years was a great learning experience for him. It showed him the value of earning money.  It showed him the freedom of earning money. It showed him that in order to have more money, you gotta do more service.   [8:18] The audio clip that helped changed Sean’s life  In November of 2009, his friend, Antonio, sent him an audio clip of John Demartini. “The amount of money that you have will always be in direct proportion to the quality and quantity of the service you provide.”   [17:10] After graduating from college, Sean became a personal trainer. His uncle and his aunt were his biggest influences on why he took health in college.  As a personal trainer, Sean had to build up the courage to talk to people when suffering with social anxiety. He had his first panic attack while doing some personal training. His doctor prescribed him Prozac but what he really wanted was Paxil. While training his last client, he found himself in the midst of a “Prozac-induced” panic attack. His social anxiety isn't completely gone and Sean's ok with that. He prefers to call it introversion. [22:32] Back in 2008, Sean launched his first show, Underground Wellness Radio. The podcast ran for 7 years and he released 348 episodes over this period of time. Surprising to most, in 2015 Sean closed up shop with his brand Underground Wellness. “Passions have seasons, and all seasons eventually come to an end.” - Lisa Nichols Sean felt that his passion for interviewing health experts is over.    [26:08] The importance of passion and loving what you do for a living If you are not living according to your highest values, it means you are not really living.  You are living by social idealisms. You are living by something outside of you. Life is too short for that. A lot of us are trapped in the ‘how’ When you are fully aligned with your values, the ‘how’ just shows up.   [27:23] Sean's motivational influences after shutting down Underground Wellness Sean was super deep into reading books by John F. Demartini.  Books by Demartini: How to Make One Hell of a Profit and Still Get to Heaven   The Breakthrough Experience The Gratitude Effect The Values Factor   He also read books by Bob Proctor. Books by Bob Proctor:   You Were Born Rich The Art of Living   Sean dived deep into physiology, neuroscience and brain chemistry. On his new YouTube Channel, Mind Kamp, he flipped the focus to personal development with a sprinkle of health.   [31:22] Neurocardiology: Interaction between the brain and the heart In the communication between the brain and the heart, 90% of it goes from the heart to the brain. There’s a little brain inside our hearts that stores information, memories, personalities, etc. Our hearts are our point of attraction.  Heart rate variability is the physiological phenomenon of variation in the time interval between heartbeats. We don’t want these to be to low. That would mean we are unhealthy.  Emotions dictate your heart rate variability.  Measure your heart rate variability through: Oura Ring emWave2 [34:11] Adding love and gratitude into your keto diet and fasting Meditation comes a long way. emWave2: emWave 2 helps with the analysis of HRV that reflects heart-brain interaction and autonomic nervous system dynamics, which are particularly sensitive to changes in your emotional state. emWave2 technology is based on "the coherence breakthrough". Coherence is a state of synchronization between your heart, brain and autonomic nervous system which has been proven to have numerous mental, emotional and physical benefits. [36:44] Your brain is the record of the past The past is literally composed of electrical current that flows in your brain.  These electrical thoughts become your biochemical feelings.  How to change these wirings? 1. Relax Get out of the high beta brain wave state.  Calm down and get into the alpha creative state.  2. Do your meditation.  AND MUCH MORE!   Resources from this episode:  Email me at ben@ketokamp.com Join the The Keto Kamp Inner Circle Get The Keto Kickstart Guide for FREE To know more about Sean Croxton, visit his website here. Sleep deprivation is such a chronic condition these days that you might not even realize you suffer from it. Science has now established that a sleep deficit can have serious effects on your health.   For example, interrupted or impaired sleep can: Dramatically weaken your immune system Accelerate tumor growth—tumors grow two to three times faster in laboratory animals with severe sleep dysfunctions Cause a pre-diabetic state, making you feel hungry even if you’ve already eaten, which can wreak havoc on your weight Seriously impair your memory; even a single night of poor sleep—meaning sleeping only 4 to 6 hours—can impact your ability to think clearly the next day Impair your performance on physical or mental tasks, and decrease your problem solving ability 06:12 Most fat burning takes place during stage 4 sleep. This is when your 5 fat burning hormones become activated; thyroid T3, IGF-1, Testosterone, Growth Hormone, Glucagon. 07:50 My favorite sleep hack, money time sleep window. This takes place generally between 10pm - 2am. I learned this from Shawn Steven (Sleep Smarter book: https://amzn.to/2Z1Urb6) Every hour of sleep within this window is equal to 2 hours of sleep outside of this window.  09:40 Our brain does housekeeping during stage 4 sleep. This is when brain cells shrink and clean itself out.  11:50 Wonky hormones are the cause of weight gain, and many diseases. Hormones are the language of the human body. We have over 600 hormones, and they want to communicate to your cells to burn fat and feel good. When we have imbalanced hormones, this doesn't happen. What has the biggest influence on your hormones? Sleep.  13:03 Practical sleep tips to help you get better sleep starting tonight. Make the room cold are dark. Fasting, Autophagy, mTor & Cancer | Reduce Your Cancer Risk by 95% – Ben Azadi: KKP 14

Fasting, Autophagy, mTor & Cancer | Reduce Your Cancer Risk by 95% – Ben Azadi: KKP 14

In this episode, we’ll talk all about autophagy. Here is an overview of this episode: The relationship between mTor & autophagy Which foods boost autophagy How to achieve autophagy via exercise Why bodybuilders die sooner than the average person Why you don't want too much autophagy Get my FREE Keto Kickstart Guide: www.ketokickstartguide.com  YouTube Channel: www.youtube.com/ketokamp  My Favorite Keto Coffee: http://www.ketokampcoffee.com 03:55 The definition of autophagy is 'Self Eating'. We are made up of trillions of cells; every day, 70 billion cells need to be recycled. Powerful refrigerator analogy on autophagy.  05:28 How not achieving autophagy leads to cancer and disease. Dr. Thomas Seyfried, who wrote the book Cancer As A Metabolic Disease, is quoted as saying "If you were to complete a 7 day water only fast you would reduce your risk of cancer by 95%". 06:10 When the body is fasted, this is an acute hormedic to the body. The body will use damaged cells, proteins, and mitochondria first! Powerful analogy on a ship going through the Atlantic ocean taking on water and sinking. 07:20 The relationship between mTor & autophagy (feast/famine), and why they can both be good for us or bad for us. Its all about how you use it. There's an art to this. Think of mTor as growth (anabolic), and autophagy as catabolic.  09:30 The human body is designed for feast/famine cycles, and when you can master this, your DNA and cells will thrive. We have 97% control over the expression of our genes. This is called epigenetics. Check out the work by Dr. Bruce Lipton: https://www.brucelipton.com/ 11:07 In order to rebuild we must tear down first. I give a great analogy I heard from Dr. Jason Fung about old kitchen counters. Relate this analogy to the process of autophagy.  11:44 When does autophagy start during a fast? It depends on the person, it ranged from 12 hours to 24 hours. A general answer is that most people should be getting autophagy at the 16 hour fasting mark. 12:30 Dr. Thomas Seyfried saw cancerous tumors shrink before his eyes when his patients achieved maximum autophagy during a block fast. Here is how you test for max autophagy; take your blood glucose, divide by 18, and compare to your blood ketones. If you have a 1:1 ratio or higher, you are in max autophagy. 14:47 Achieve 3x the autophagy with a dry fast. This is extreme so work with a health practitioner.  15:15 Exercise increases autophagy. So do these specific ingredients. Add them to your daily diet; coffee, olive oil, coconuts, green tea, turmeric, ginger, sulforaphane (broccoli sprouts), mushrooms. Keto For Cancer, Fasting & Autophagy, Busting Cancer Myths – Dr. Nasha Winters KKP 12

Keto For Cancer, Fasting & Autophagy, Busting Cancer Myths – Dr. Nasha Winters KKP 12

One out of every three Americans is diagnosed with cancer. So, it is very important to learn how to cope and deal with it. If you or any of your loved have ever been affected by cancer, this is going to be the episode you’re gonna want to listen. In this episode, I am joined by a world leader in cancer research and the author of The Metabolic Approach to Cancer, Dr. Nasha Winters. I’m thrilled to have Dr. Nasha on to bring us wisdom and tips in navigating the cancer terrain. Dr. Nasha Winters speaks from experience when she talks about Cancer and how to be proactive in preventing and/or combating it. Her first experience with cancer was at the age of 19. She was diagnosed with stage IV ovarian cancer and given only a few months to live. Determine to get well, she discovered the life changes that would turn it around. She immersed herself in chemistry and biology and became her own savior. Her book, The Metabolic Approach to Cancer, stems from her nearly three decades of personal and professional experience in the field of integrative oncology. Dr. Nasha is a licensed Naturopathic Doctor (ND) and a Fellow of the American Board of Naturopathic Oncology (FABNO). She is a global healthcare authority in integrative cancer research. Dr. Nasha is a sought-after speaker and consults with physicians worldwide. This episode is all about cancer and we dig deep as to why this disease is happening. Listen and learn from the stories that Dr. Nasha shares that will truly affect your heart. We also talked about skin cancer, BRCA gene, vitamin D and more. There’s so much information in this episode making it truly one for the books! In this episode, you'll discover:   [4:24] Dr. Nasha’s first experience with cancer At the age of 19, Dr. Nasha was diagnosed with stage IV ovarian cancer. She was given 3 to 6 months to live, even with treatment. She was filled with ascites, metastatic lesions, crippled in extreme pain and nausea, had infections simmering, severe malnourishment, and muscle wasting. Her doctors told her that chemo and surgery wouldn’t help her advanced cancer. The diagnosis of terminal cancer suddenly shook her awake and asked her point-blank if she wanted to live or die. It had taken countless doctors over six months to stop making assumptions and defaulting to writing scripts from A (anxiolytics) to Z (Zithromax).  Dr. Nasha was forced to explore alternative methods. Luckily, she was blessed with an ER doctor who allowed her the time to share the chronology of her symptoms and truly listen. In the last 6 months, Dr. Nasha have seen 5 girls under the age of 10 with Stage IV Ovarian cancer.  Dr. Nasha acknowledges that her past experiences of significant trauma and abuse contributed to her illness.   [17:42] What is The Gerson Therapy? The Gerson Therapy was popularized in the 1940s by Dr. Charlotte Gerson. Dr. Gerson had amazing experience of solving all kinds of oncology situations by putting people on a very vegetable-densed high potassium, low sodium chloride diet.  The key parts of the Gerson therapy are a strict diet, dietary supplements, and enemas.   [24:12] Sharing authentically is very powerful for healing the body.  The theory that changing mental state can affect the course of cancer has been popularized by authors such as Bernie Siegel and Deepak Chopra.  A support group program called Exceptional Cancer Patients (ECap) developed by Dr. Siegel found that women with breast cancer has a higher chance of survival rate when they are part of a support group. Take The ACE Quiz - According to the Adverse Childhood Experiences study, the rougher your childhood, the higher your score is likely to be and the higher your risk for later health problems.   [27:45] The Cancer Experience Having been diagnosed with cancer felt a very dirty secret for Dr. Nasha. The first person that she has told about her diagnosis then is now her husband.  The hardest thing when you are dealing with a cancer diagnosis is the well-meaning advice and wishes of the people in your circle.  You could take every perfect supplement. You could be in perfect metabolic flexibility. You can have an incredibly immaculate clean environment. But, if you are not dealing with the emotional healing within yourselves, you are not gonna get very far. You are not gonna get the outcomes you are hoping to achieve. People have to come to it when they are ready. Check out this resource from Dr. Nasha: 5 Steps to Take After a Cancer Diagnosis   [34:38] Top tools to heal your body At 16, Dr. Nasha decided to become a ‘vegetarian’.  A Chinese medical practitioner looked at her tongue and told her, “You have to eat some animal food.” TEST. ASSESS. ADDRESS. Adjust accordingly. Consistently do your labs. Do not guess. Do not compare.  Dr. Nasha advices people diagnosed with cancer to not tell everybody in the beginning. When you tell your loved ones, you deal with their reactions and you don’t get the opportunity to work on your own. [41:28] Issue with eating every two to three hours When we eat that often, we don’t give ourselves the bowel rest we need so that everything can clear up and evacuate. You have to give that window of autophagy to take out the garbage. Somewhere between 12 to 72 hours (depending on the person and situation), that’s what it’ll take to get some autophagy.  If you fast 13 hours a day and you are eating clean and relatively low carb, you will shift into some moderate autophagy.  When you are dealing with cancer, you’d want to moderate or lower your protein to avoid clicking on the mTOR pathways.  Kick-up your fats and restrict your carbohydrates to stay off the insulin growth factor aspect.  Bring in some intermittent fasting.  13 hours everyday, 16 to 18 hours twice a week, 3 days a month of fasting.  Walk towards to water fasting.  If you feel hungry, drink water. If after 15 minutes, you are still hungry, have a teaspon of coconut oil. After 15 minutes again, have a little bit of protein. If you are still hungry after that, eat a piece of fruit.  Hunger is more psychological than physical.    [47:30] Tips for people who are recovering from surgery  Understand why did we get here. We can’t completely heal and stay healed in the soil in which we got sick. Learn about The Terrain Ten, Dr. Winters’s cancer program for achieving optimal health See a prostate specialist to have a look for infectious agents.  Do some basic good laboratory assessment. Rule of thumb specific for prostate cancer only:  Avoid poultry skin and dairy. If you want dairy, take occasional heavy sour cream.  Quality is key. We don’t want extras because extras are all cancer drivers. Avoid red meat especially if you have the ACSL1.  Monitor both free and total PSA and PAP. Get a BIOCEPT prostate profile and circulating tumor cell count enumeration.   [52:36] Fasting, Keto and Skin Cancer: Myths and Facts All of us could benefit from a lower carbohydrate diet and higher plant intake diet.  Sugar drives the viral process. Melanoma is not a skin cancer. It is a systemic cancer. It is one of the cancers that the Gerson Diet does a pretty good job with.  Low carb diet to vegetarian diet Apply soap to pits and parts. Do not damage the absorption process of your skin.  Get a good bath every two weeks.  Skin tags are blood sugars. If you see skin tags, you are looking at diabetes.  [60:00] Test. Assess. Address. Dr. Nasha encourages everyone to run at least annually a complete metabolic panel (CMP),  complete blood count (CBC), neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), and Lactic Acid Dehydrogenase (LDH) Test. Awareness is the first step. Make sure you vitamin D levels are above 50, if you are not dealing with a chronic illness. Even though an LDH test is useful in diagnosing tissue damage, other tests are usually necessary to pinpoint the location of the damage. One such test is called the LDH isoenzymes test. LDH isoenzymes are five kinds of the LDH enzyme that are found in specific concentrations in different organs and tissues.    [68:00]  What is The BRCA gene? The name “BRCA” is an abbreviation for “BReast CAncer gene.” BRCA1 and BRCA2 are two different genes that have been found to impact a person’s chances of developing breast cancer. When a BRCA gene is mutated, it may no longer be effective at repairing broken DNA and helping to prevent breast cancer. Because of this, people with a BRCA gene mutation are more likely to develop breast cancer, and more likely to develop cancer at a younger age. The carrier of the mutated gene can also pass a gene mutation down to his or her offspring.   AND MUCH MORE!   Resources from this episode:  Email me at ben@ketokamp.com Join the The Keto Kamp Inner Circle Claim my FREE Keto Kickstart Guide: www.ketokickstartguide.com Subscribe to the Keto Kamp YouTube channel: www.youtube.com/ketokamp  To know more about Dr. Nasha Winters, visit her website here. Intermittent Fasting vs Caloric Restriction, Why Counting Calories Is Stupid – Ben Azadi: KKP 11

Intermittent Fasting vs Caloric Restriction, Why Counting Calories Is Stupid – Ben Azadi: KKP 11

In this episode, we’ll talk all about counting calories. Here is an overview of this episode: Why cutting calories only works short term The difference between intermittent fasting & counting calories Where the energy expenditure hypothesis came from (this will shock you) Why you cannot outsmart the human body Get my FREE Keto Kickstart Guide: www.ketokickstartguide.com  YouTube Channel: www.youtube.com/ketokamp  My Favorite Keto Coffee: www.ketokampcofee.com    03:45 A story about a woman named Sandra who hired a nutritionist to help her lose weight, and this nutritionists (backward) approach of telling her to eat less and move more. This story powerfully illustrates why you cannot outsmart the human body. 08:03 Where did this energy expenditure hypothesis come from, and why are dietitians and nutritionists still promoting this? This will shock you.  08:35 Faith vs fear. Faith and fear both demand for you to believe in something you cannot see; you choose! 09:12 Food is information. What really matters are the hormonal response from calories. We are a dynamic system. At this point of the episode I give an analogy I learned from Gary Taubes 10:10 A simple example of why quality is much more important than quantity. I can give 500 calories to one person of brownies day after day. I can give the same 500 calories to another person of a kale salmon salad day after day. Will there be a difference? You bet! 10:48 A brilliant analogy from Dr. Jason Fung about proximate cause vs ultimate cause. 12:30 With calories in vs calories out, you don't have enough data. It doesn't tell you about hormones, cell membrane inflammation, mold exposure, silver fillings, and many other hidden stressors contributing to weight gain.  13:10 The difference between intermittent fasting while cutting calories, and cutting your calories while eating small portion control meals every 2-3 hours. The biggest difference here is counter regulatory hormones. Intermittent fasting is not about eating less, its about eating less often.  15:45 There's a cause of every effect. We don't lose weight to get healthy, we get healthy to lose weight. Einstein said it best, "Intellectuals solver problems. Geniuses prevent them."  16:15 A perfect example of why chasing symptoms only sets you up for longterm failure.  Claim Your FREE Keto Kickstart Guide Today: www.ketokickstartguide.com  This podcast is for information purposes only.
