4 Reasons Why Long Term Ketosis is Bad For You & How to Practice Keto Flexing - Ben Azadi KKP: 251

On this episode, I explain 4 reasons why long-term keto is a bad idea. Today is the worldwide release of Keto Flex, and I dive deep into Chapter 10 which is all about keto flexing. It will cause you to burn excess body fat and improve your overall health. But there’s one important caveat. A constant, unrelenting state of ketosis—in which your body is burning its own fat for fuel—is obviously unsustainable, because eventually you’d have no more fat. In this chapter, we move into the Flex pillar, which will allow you to maintain your Keto lifestyle month after month, year after year. Four Reasons Why Prolonged Ketosis Is Counterproductive My mantra is, “Lose the excess fat; treasure the necessary fat.” Ketosis is a brilliant strategy for accomplishing the first goal. As for the second goal, prolonged ketosis doesn’t have an automatic shut-off valve. If you remain in state of constant ketosis, burning your own fat, then your body will keep doing that as long as it must to stay alive. If necessary to preserve life, once your fat is gone, various bodily functions will be shut off or minimized. This process of shutting down will continue until Mr. Death knocks on your door and says, “Sorry, buddy—time’s up.” No one wants that. To ensure that you’re well informed, let’s review some of the bad things that can happen if you go too far with ketosis. Fat Burning Slows Down As levels of body fat drop, your primal brain, whom we thought we had trained to accept a high-fat diet and fasting, will be aroused and will begin to object. Why and when will this happen? Your primal brain, that eternal watchdog, will sense that your reserves of fat are becoming depleted. Remembering those long periods of deprivation thousands of years ago, your primal brain will sound the alarm: The fat supply is running low! It will issue the command that your body must preserve its precious fuel. In response, your body will actually slow down fat burning—all for the sake of survival! When you stay in ketosis too long, the body starts to rebel, and conserve its fuel. A good analogy is if you lived out in the woods and you had stored 500 logs of firewood to heat your cabin for the winter. These were your reserves, because you could still go out and chop more firewood. So if you had to dip into these reserves, you wouldn’t be worried. But now it’s early March, and snow still covers the ground. It’s been a tough winter and you haven’t harvested many trees, and you see that you’ve got only 50 logs left. That’s a very low supply! Suddenly you’re reluctant to use them because you don’t want to run out. When you had 500 logs, you didn’t care about burning them. The same thing happens with your body fat. This is why when you stay low carbohydrate for too long, your body will slow down fat metabolism. And you know what? This is a good thing. There is a big difference between losing excess fat and losing all your fat. You want to lose excess fat. But your body needs a small amount of fat, and your primal brain is smart to insist that you meet this minimal requirement. Thyroid Problems Hormone production is often a function of a “chain of command,” as orders are passed from one organ to another, until the desired outcome is achieved. The hypothalamus and the pituitary gland, which are located in the brain, help control the thyroid gland, a butterfly-shaped gland located at the base of your throat, just below the Adam’s apple. To provide their direction to the thyroid, the hypothalamus releases thyrotropin-releasing hormone (TRH), which stimulates the pituitary gland to release thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH). When the hypothalamus and pituitary are working normally, they respond when: Thyroid hormone levels are low, so they secrete more TRH and TSH, which stimulates the thyroid to make more hormones. Thyroid hormone levels are too high, so they secrete less TRH and TSH, which reduces hormone production by the thyroid. The thyroid gland uses iodine from food to make two thyroid hormones: triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4). The primary secretory product is inactive thyroxine (T4), which is a prohormone of triiodothyronine (T3). T4 is converted to T3 peripherally by tissues with high blood flow, including the liver and kidneys. In the brain, T4 is converted to active T3 by type 2 deiodinase produced by glial cells. The thyroid stores T3 and T4, and releases them as they are needed. These two thyroid hormones function in almost every cell in your body, and play a fundamental role in regulating your metabolism and maintaining your resting energy expenditure—that is, the energy you burn just to keep functioning while sitting on the sofa. Diet can influence thyroid hormone levels, and prolonged ketosis and severe calorie restriction can lead to reduced thyroid function, or hypothyroidism, which is a mechanism to ensure survival in response to perceived famine. The goal is to slow metabolism, preserve energy, and preserve vital organs. T4 is the inactive form of thyroid, it needs to be converted to T3 which is the active form used by the cells. Do you know which hormone helps with this conversion? Insulin. Low thyroid hormones cause a drop in levels of insulin, the hormone needed to transport sugar from the blood to different cells throughout the body. Chronic low insulin levels slow down cellular function, including muscle contractions and basic brain function. Over longer periods of time, low insulin levels compromise this T4 to T3 thyroid hormone conversion. Testosterone Deficiency Sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG) is a protein made by your liver. It binds tightly to three sex hormones found in both men and women—estrogen, dihydrotestosterone (DHT), and testosterone. SHBG carries these three hormones throughout your blood. SHBG controls the amount of testosterone that your body tissues can use. Too little testosterone in men and too much testosterone in women can cause problems. Factors such as sex, age, obesity, liver disease, and hypothyroidism can change the level of SHBG in your blood. Hypothyroidism is when your thyroid produces an insufficient amount of thyroid hormones, which can happen with prolonged ketosis. What I’ve seen reviewing lab work over the years is too much SHBG leads to lower testosterone levels, and not enough SHBG leads to an increase in estrogen; both can be problematic for men and women. Long term ketosis can lead to either of these. Leptin Reset Leptin is your “stop eating!” hormone that plays an instrumental role in your hunger and weight management. It comes from the Greek word ”leptos,” meaning “thin.” Fat cells produce leptin in proportion to levels of body fat: the more fat cells you have, the more leptin they make. When your body fat increases, your leptin levels go up. Your brain senses the increase in leptin, and thinks, “Okay, we’ve got enough fat in reserve, so we can stop eating.” Thus, you eat less and burn more. Conversely, when you don’t eat, your body fat decreases, leading your leptin levels to drop. Your brain, sensing a shortage of leptin, thinks, “Hmm, we’re low on fat reserves. Better find some food!” At that point, you eat more and burn less. This negative feedback loop is similar to the control mechanisms for many physiological functions, such as body temperature, breathing, and blood pressure. A properly working leptin system tells your brain that you have enough energy stored in your fat cells to engage in normal, everyday metabolic processes. It leads to better brain function, memory, metabolic performance, mental sharpness, and coordination, and it can even affect the regulation of mood and emotion. This is wonderful—except that many overweight people suffer from leptin resistance. They have plenty of blood leptin, but the brain doesn’t recognize it. Despite the abundance of leptin, the brain thinks there is too little leptin—and orders the body to keep eating! This is obviously a bad situation. What can cause it? Several potential mechanisms behind leptin resistance have been identified. Free fatty acids. Having elevated free fatty acids in your bloodstream may increase fat metabolites in your brain, and interfere with leptin signaling. Inflammation. Inflammatory signaling in your hypothalamus could be a cause of leptin resistance. Having consistently high leptin. It may be that your brain gets accustomed to a constant flood of leptin churned out by your fat cells, and becomes “numb” to it. So, what happens when you follow a low-carb keto diet that puts you in long-term ketosis? Perhaps paradoxically, many people do not suffer from an increase in appetite, as you might expect from falling levels of leptin. It’s complicated, but the short version of the story is that leptin levels will drop, which would normally signal your brain to start eating. But something else happens—your brain becomes more sensitive to the effects of leptin, so a smaller amount of leptin packs more punch. In addition, the brain’s response to leptin is inhibited by inflammation, resulting in increased leptin resistance. Obesity increases inflammation, which increase the brain’s “numbness” to high levels of leptin. Inflammation is dramatically reduced by sustained nutritional ketosis. The reduction in leptin resistance due to reduced inflammation adds to the brain’s heightened sensitivity to leptin. In other words, on a well-formulated ketogenic diet the brain perceives a greater satiety response to less leptin. This explains the paradox as to why we see a decrease in appetite with nutritional ketosis. In order to achieve a sustained state of ketosis, you need to occasionally boost your levels of leptin and send the signal to your brain that higher levels of leptin are normal, and that you need to keep eating. This is another reason why the “flex” part of Keto Flex Lifestyle is so important. We never want your brain to think you’re starving—but we also don’t want it to forget about eating! 3 Biggest Causes of Inflammation, How to Test for Max Autophagy – Ben Azadi: KKP 002

3 Biggest Causes of Inflammation, How to Test for Max Autophagy – Ben Azadi: KKP 002

In this episode, I am breaking down the top reasons why you might be struggling with the Keto Diet and intermittent fasting, and provide you with solutions to maximize your results. I will be relaying the information Dr. Daniel Pompa shared in Episode 1, and go deeper into each important detail. If you are currently on a ketogenic diet or you are planning to be on one, this episode is definitely for you! Don’t miss out on the fun! In this episode you will learn: - The 3 biggest sources of inflammation, leading to poor keto and fasting results - What to do if you have silver amalgam fillings - What is maximum autophagy, and how to achieve it by looking and glucose/ketone measurements - Why most detoxes fail - What to do if you've been exposed to heavy metals - And so much more Learn more at www.youtube.com/ketokamp Get my free keto kickstart guide www.ketokickstartguide.com  [1:56] Environmental toxins are everywhere. There are three (3) environmental toxins currently affecting four (4) generations and they are leading to an explosion of chronic diseases and obesity: Lead Mercury Glyphosate A study was done by the Environmental Working Group (EWG) where they examined blood of newborn babies. Newborn babies began life exposed to 287 of 413 toxic chemicals and 180 of those toxins were found to cause cancer.  Cancer rates in children have risen to 61.7% since 1950. According to Colombia University of School of Public Health, 95% of cancer is caused by diet and environment.   [3:05] Silver Fillings which are also called Amalgam Fillings contain 50% mercury Mercury is a major toxin and it creates cellular inflammation. Our mouths are very acidic. Silver fillings (in our mouth) vaporize and go into our brain which then bioaccumulates into the hypothalamus pituitary as inorganic mercury. When boxes of silver fillings are delivered into clinics, it is classified as a poison. Once they were put in your mouth, they are declassified as poisons. Tests showed mercury is not in patients blood. However, these are wrong tests to take as mercury is stored in the brain and not in our blood. You need to get a biopsy of the brain. As Dr. Pompa shared in the previous episode, silver fillings in his mouth almost took his life. He underwent the right process of removing the fillings and eventually got his life back. If you have silver fillings in your mouth and want it removed, make sure it is done right by the right dentist. A good place to find a safe dentist is at IAOMT: The International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology   [6:45] Detox downstream analogy The analogy:  If you’re downstream trying to fix the river and get fish to repopulate the stream of the river, while upstream, they’re still dumping mercury or lead into the river, you’re never ever going to get the fish to take population again.  You’ll never going to take care of the problem when you go downstream. Treatment at the cellular level or upstream is the ultimate solution.   [7:53] Studies about mercury  One study found out that the more amalgam fillings present in your mouth, the more mercury you will have in your organs including the brain, heart, kidney and liver. Study after study, it shows the link between the fillings and mercury found in the body. Another study showed that mercury is linked to high amounts of visceral fat and obesity. A study done by the Diabetes and Metabolism Journal showed an association between blood mercury levels and visceral adiposity in adults. Studies have shown that the number of silver fillings you have in your mouth is proportional to the number of mercury they find in your brain on autopsies.   [9:07] What is cellular inflammation? Cellular inflammation does not pertain to sore shoulders, ankle, and others. When your cells are inflamed, receptor sites that your hormones communicate to are not heard. We need to remove the stressors and toxins that create inflammation at a cellular level. If it can't get to the cell, you are not gonna feel well. [10:47] For 20 years, I had 8 silver fillings  Last year, I had them removed the right way. I am currently running a detox on myself for the last 6 months and I feel the best I’ve felt in a very long time. I encourage you to do a little research. If this is intriguing to you and you want to dive deep about it, feel free to contact me at ben@ketokamp.com.   [11:34] Common symptoms of mercury poisoning Studies have shown that chronic Hg exposure from various sources including dental amalgams is associated with numerous health complaints, including fatigue, anxiety, and depression Elemental mercury toxicity (which usually occurs in the vaporized form) can cause: mood swings, nervousness, irritability, and other emotional changes, insomnia, headache, abnormal sensations, muscle twitching, tremors, weakness, muscle atrophy, and decreased cognitive functions. [12:12] Are you safe from mercury poisoning? Did you ever get a flu shot? If you answer is yes, here are interesting things you need to know. According to Hugh Fudenberg, MD, world's leading immunogeneticist, “If an individual has had five consecutive flu shots between 1970 and 1980, chances of getting alzheimer’s disease is ten times higher than if they had one, two or no shots due to the mercury and aluminum buildup in the brain.”    [13:30] Lead affects 4 generations in 2 ways. Lead is inherited from the mother to the baby and it is passed down to 4 generations. Scientists already have documented that low levels of lead can reduce children’s IQs and cause other neurological effects. But the new study is one of few to find that babies in the womb also could be affected, especially if exposed during the first trimester. Lead turns on bad genes associated with many diseases, even obesity. Results of the study entitled “A longitudinal study of chronic lead exposure and physical growth in Boston children” suggest that chronic lead exposure in childhood may result in obesity that persists into adulthood. Exposure to lead during early development can alter the the gut microbiota, increasing the chances for obesity in adulthood, research has found. Across the United States, drinking water (tap) is tainted with lead. Do not drink tap water. Have a shower filter.   [16:57] Glyphosate makes everything worse. Glyphosate makes aluminum, mercury, and lead more toxic. Children with the autism diagnosis are especially vulnerable to toxic metals such as aluminum and mercury due to insufficient serum sulfate and glutathione.    [18:00] We are born with a set of genes and we cannot change that. However, we can control the expression of those genes. Dr. Bruce Lipton, author of The Biology of Belief: Unleashing the Power of Consciousness, Matter, and Miracles believes that more than 95% of our genes are expressed through our decisions and choices. Less than 5% of disease is genetically-related.   [19:35] Dr. Pompa’s The 180 Degree Solution I call this the “George Costanza Effect” George Louis Costanza was one of the four main characters on Seinfeld Watch what the mainstream media and the government say and do the opposite.    [20:54] Fasting and Autophagy: A Powerful Combination Fasting: A client of Dr. Pompa fasted for 26.5 days and her tumor’s size declined significantly. Fasting is a very powerful way to prevent cancer and heal yourself. Cancer as a Metabolic Disease, a book by Thomas Seyfried advice to do a 7 to 10 day fast once a year in order to try to kill any cancerous or precancerous cells one may be hosting When are not fasting, that’s how cancer is created. We let cancer cells duplicate. Autophagy: A way of our body to clean up cellular junk. The body’s process of recycling its own damaged cells and tissue into usable energy during times when food is not present or new cells to heal the body. Achieve maximum autophagy when you block fast.   [24:24] Test your glucose and ketone  Test your glucose and make sure that it is in a 1:1 ratio with your ketones. Dr. Thomas’ saw tumor shrink before his eyes through this method. I use Keto-Mojo to monitor my keto diet. Get yours here. Dry Fasting for Cancer, 4 Supplements to Stop Taking, The Dangers of Silver Fillings – Dr. Daniel Pompa: KKP 001

Dry Fasting for Cancer, 4 Supplements to Stop Taking, The Dangers of Silver Fillings – Dr. Daniel Pompa: KKP 001

This first episode is very special to me as I am joined by my coach, mentor and friend, Doctor Daniel Pompa. Not only is Dr. Pompa my coach and mentor; he is the world leader in cellular detox. Having battled and emerged victorious over a debilitating battle with chronic fatigue syndrome, Dr. Dan Pompa, PSc.D, has embraced his God-given mission to assist others who face similar challenges. Dr. Pompa earned his Doctor of Chiropractic degree at Life University’s College of Chiropractic in Marietta, Georgia in 1995 where he graduated second in a class of 150. His journey back to health continued to lead him to a voracious passion to research and learning beyond what is often readily understood. Dr. Pompa has established his coaching and teaching on a firm and proven conviction that the crisis of modern-day allopathic medicine is the sad result of physicians chasing symptoms with medication rather than addressing the root cause of disease. In this episode, Dr. Dan Pompa shares his personal story of mercury poisoning and how he converted his pain to purpose. Listen and learn all about Dr. Dan’s expertise which includes fasting, autophagy, diet and more! This episode is jam-packed with information so you definitely don’t want to miss this one!  We cover many facets of the fasting and toxicity that are contributing to disease, and Dr. Pompa gives it to us straight: There's 3 big stressors contributing to disease in our society. You cannot get well until you address this.  Antibiotics are killing more people than they are helping. The 3 supplements he has all of his new patients stop taking immediately. With a bonus 4th supplement.  The amazing tumor shrinking benefits of fasting, and details on dry fasting vs water fasting. Listen in on this informative discussion about why so many people don't feel good even though their blood work looks "normal". Enjoy the show!   [0:33] Growing up ‘Pompa’: A Different American Household While Dr. Pompa did have vaccine shots, he never had any antibiotics. His bricklayer and home doctor father always doctor him - bandaging him up, sterilizing his wounds and stitching his wounds. Dr. Pompa’s father was in the military during World War II and during that time, they doctor themselves. For Dr. Pompa, there is a time and place for antibiotics. One of those instances is when his son, Simon, got bone infection.    [3:33] The problem with taking too much antibiotics Antibiotics wipes out microbiomes which is 70-80% of your immune system and it creates immune problems later.  After World War II, we all though antibiotic is our savior but we’ve learned a lot this past few decades. Antibiotics created more disease than the number of lives it saved.  People get slapped with antibiotics when they have pneumonia or sinus infections. Antibiotics cannot fight viral infections. Because of this, a lot of superbugs and resistant bacteria that are now killing people.    [5:21] Dr. Dan’s journey to becoming a health practitioner Dr. Dan loves the book Doctor Dan, the Bandage Man Being a pre-dental college student and a wrestler: His interest was always health Cutting weight/calories didn’t make sense to him  Reading fitness magazines and muscle and fitness: How to keep your muscle and be as lean as possible Cutting calories don’t work. You lose strength. In Ocean City Maryland, Dr. Pompa ran a marketing sales crew and they all ended up on the Pompa Diet    [10:30] Life as Dr. Pompa knows it came into a screeching haul As a chiropractor and a cyclist, Dr. Pompa was in a great shape until he got sick. From fatigue and anxiety, he had insomnia, panic attacks and he got allergic to everything he was eating. He can’t even watch a movie.  He became irritable, angry, or simply someone he didn’t know. In 2005, he started getting his life back. He and his wife grew their family. They adopted two kids who lost their parents tragically and they had another son.   [14:42] Dr. Dan Pompa continues his personal story of mercury poisoning Searching the internet and reading literature, he came up with him having Mad Hatter Disease. However, blood test results came back negative.  A very bright endocrinologist advised him to do another test, one that is based on tissues not blood, and found out he has mercury poisoning. Chronic mercury poisoning from Amalgam Fillings: from Pain to Purpose Silver fillings in amalgam fillings contain 50% mercury The golf crown creates an electrical current with the silver fillings and made the mercury flow out of the fillings Studies have shown that the number of silver fillings you have in your mouth is proportional to the number of mercury they find in your brain on autopsies. Mercury accumulates in the brain through time, particularly in hypothalamus pituitary which controls your thyroid and your adrenals.  Dr. Pompa had to get the mercury out of his brain safely and correctly to ultimately get his life back   [20:44] Detox downstream analogy The analogy:  If you’re downstream trying to fix the river and get fish to repopulate the stream of the river, while upstream, they’re still dumping mercury or lead into the river, you’re never ever going to get the fish to take population again.  All of those detoxes are too far downstream to what the real problem is. Metals, mold and hidden infections are the top three big ones that people miss upstream.  Detox at the cellular level is the ultimate solution.   [23:56] Why are dentists still doing root canals and still put silver fillings in people’s mouths? There was a documentary called Root Cause featuring opinions from doctors and dentists from around the world on the health effects of the root canal procedure. The American Dental Association (ADA) urged Netflix, Amazon and other companies to remove Root Cause, which they believed is a documentary spreading misinformation.  A hundred percent (100%) of root canals is infected yet dentists are still doing them because it is the cash cow of dentistry. There’s a growing group of dentists called Biological Dentists who are not doing root canals anymore. A good place to find a safe dentist is at IAOMT: The International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology These dentists know how to take fillings out correctly. If you had them out, the mercury vapor turns into inorganic mercury in your brain where it is locked for life, unless you do the right detox.   [27:42] The 180 Degree Solution Watch what the media says and do the opposite.    [28:20] Fasting and Autophagy: A Powerful Combination Fasting Beyond Fasting, Dr. Pompa’s new book. Available for pre-order at beyondfastingbook.com He started learning about fasting in the 90s. A client of Dr. Pompa fasted for 26.5 days and her tumor’s size declined significantly  Autophagy The body’s process of recycling its own damaged tissue into usable energy during times when food is not present. Fasting and ketosis shrink tumors via autophagy Fasting and Autophagy Partial fasting involves eating 500-1000 calories, keeping protein under a certain amount, and gives autophagy. Dry fasting gives 3x autophagy.  A 24-hour hard dry fast is equal to 3 days water fasting in terms of autophagy    [39:24] A peek on Beyond Fasting, Dr. Pompa’s new book Diet variation is one of the quickest ways to lose weight. When we vary our diet, the hormonal shifts for adaptation re-establish and trigger the body’s ability to burn fat for energy. Healthy bodies thrive when forced to adapt both physically and mentally. The key is to get your cells hear the hormones better. Toxins block hormone receptors.  The key is in the variation.   [43:36] The problem with staying in Ketosis for too long Staying in any diet for too long literally creates problems with your microbiome because you are not forcing adaptation.   [45:20] Three supplements that people are usually on and have to immediately take off Probiotic People stay on the same probiotic all the time. Taking one probiotic that has 7 bacteria in it, you end up too many of those. Multi-vitamin Multi-vitamins are typically in inactive forms and can create more stress on the liver Vitamin D Most people taking vitamin D doesn’t have balance of the other fat-soluble (Vitamin A, E, and K) which leads to functional deficiencies.    AND MUCH MORE!   Resources from this episode:  Visit Dr. Pompa’s Website Cellular Healing TV: The Podcast of Dr. Daniel Pompa The Cellular Healing Diet by Dr. Pompa 188: Is Fish Oil Dangerous? 197: The Truth About Fish Oil Part 2 Pre-order Beyond Fasting, Dr. Pompa’s new book at beyondfastingbook.com Some relevant articles by Dr. Pompa: Fasting and Autophagy: A Powerful 1-2 Punch Testimonies in Water Fasting Diet Variation Strategies, The Quickest Ways To Lose Weight The Ketogenic Diet: An Answer for More than Weight-Loss Resistance Doctor Dan, the Bandage Man by Helen Gaspard Root Cause IAOMT: The International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology 2016 Nobel Prize Winner: Yoshinori Ohsumi for his discoveries of mechanisms for autophagy Cancer as a Metabolic Disease by Thomas Seyfried   This podcast is for information purposes only.
