Today, I am blessed to have here with me Dr. Wendie Trubow. Husband-and-wife team Wendie Trubow and Ed Levitan are physicians and functional medicine practitioners with more than thirty-five years of combined experience in the medical field. In this episode, Dr. Wendie opens the show by describing the journey that led to a celiac diagnosis and all sorts of toxin exposures. She had hair loss, brain fog, anxiety, thyroid issues, heart palpitations, memory issues, bloating, gas, diarrhea, constipation, and room-clearing gas. Silver amalgam fillings are so toxic that you can’t throw them in the trash. Instead, you need to dispose of them as toxic waste. Get your fillings removed safely. [24:20] If You Don’t Know What An Ingredient Is, Then Don’t Put It In Your Body You can’t assume anything is safe until proven otherwise. Instead, you should presume that anything you can’t pronounce is not safe. Dr. Wendie taught her children that if they can’t read an ingredient, they can’t put it in their bodies. If you don’t know something, then it shouldn’t be in or on your body. [27:40] Mercury Poisoning: How Fish Consumption Is Causing Problems When mercury gets released into the atmosphere and lands in the oceans, it gets converted into methylmercury, which is harmful. Then, fish will ingest the methylmercury. The bigger the fist, the more methylmercury they have ingested. When you're eating these high mercury fish, you're getting more than one serving of mercury. If you’re eating fish regularly, you’re aggregating the exposure. [31:40] About The Holy Trinity and What Role That Plays With People Feeling Sick and Tired The adrenals run the show; it’s the first part of the holy trinity. Attached to the adrenals is the liver. The liver does a tremendous amount of detox work. The liver uses alcohol dehydrogenase and breaks down the alcohol to prevent death from overconsumption. If you drink too much, you will get alcohol poisoning, and your liver can’t keep up. Under stress, your adrenals will tell the liver to stop what it is doing. Most of our stressors are not life or death. However, the body cannot tell the difference. The third part of the holy trinity is the gut. During stress, you will not be digesting food. If the adrenals, liver, or gut are not working correctly, you will not be able to detox. [37:00] The Reasons You Should Stop Eating Sugar All of The Time You want to stop anything that stresses the liver. Sugar will stress the liver. If hormones are improperly balanced, they will strain the liver. Two hundred years ago, our ancestors ate as much sugar in a year, as we eat in a day. The average human eats 40 grams of sugar or more a day. Sugar is it’s own type of toxin; sugar will throw off the microbiome. Instead, you should eat foods that help the liver, like cruciferous vegetables, turmeric, eggs, meats, and cheeses. [41:50] Enemas Are A Great Way To Retrain The Gut Coffee enemas can help you detox. Enemas are retraining the gut muscles. Ideally, you want your poop to be a nice pipe. If you’re constipated, that muscle in the gut is overly stretched. When it gets overly stretched, it forgets how to do its job. Retraining the gut to contract can be very valuable for people.
