Originally from Phoenix, Arizona, McKenna is a Certified Specialist of Wine (2021), Certified Sommelier (2022), and Italian Wine Ambassador (2023). She loves country swing dancing, hosting brunch parties, and sipping Italian Wine. Guest Bio - Gabriella Favara Gabriella was born and raised among the scents of the harvests and the stories of her grandparents Giacomo and Gabriella, the founders of Donnafugata. After completing her studies in economics and business management, in Italy and abroad, she worked in marketing for two Italian family companies that are leaders in their sectors. Gabriella represents the 6th generation involved in quality wine - this gives her a strong bond with Sicily and her family, and brings her back to her homeland to join Donnafugata in October 2022. At Donnafugata she is part of the wine tourism team - dedicated to hospitality, guiding visits and tastings around Donnafugata’s estates. Hospitality cultivates her passion for relationships, and to share the love for Sicily and for important family traditions. In her free time she loves traveling to discover new cultures; she has a passion for classical dance, photography and music. Today, she will be interviewing Mark Guillaudeu More about today’s guests Mark Guillaudeu's career in wine began at Glen's Garden Market in the Dupont Circle neighborhood of Washington, D.C.. Fresh from a Master's program in Buddhist Studies, an entry-level position as a cashier quickly became a management role assisting with the beer, wine, and coffee programs at the all-local, all-organic market. Focusing exclusively on the wines of the Midatlantic and New England, Mark soon left Glen's to pursue the opportunity to sell the great wines of the wide world. Sommelier roles followed at mom-and-pop's, upscale, and steakhouse concepts in D.C. before, the eve after his final WSET Diploma exam, Mark packed the last of his belongings and set off to California. Mark managed the wine and cocktail programs at Commis in Oakland for five years, earning accolades for both programs while balancing studies in the Master of Wine program with competitive successes culminating in the title of Best Sommelier USA in June of 2022. In February of 2023 he became the first American semi-finalist at the Concours Mondiale and earned his Master Sommelier Diploma on September 6, 2023. More about today’s guest Bilena Settepani is a talented young entrepreneur, and pastry chef, raised in a family of both bakers and restaurateurs, and from a young age, she was immersed in the world of food and hospitality. Bilena’s first word was “Dabo” which in Ethiopia means bread; many of our patrons have seen Bilena work every position from starting as in her early teen’s maître d, bussing, waiting tables, bartender, manager and more as she studied and even on the side as she started a career in fashion. When the pandemic hit she dropped everything and quit her job to step up and take care of the family's business while the Settepani family like everyone else was facing hardship in all aspects of life. Bilena's passion for pastry began at a young age, as she would spend time at both locations but always trying to get her hands on the action and was always curious to try things. Her love for food goes beyond the kitchen as she also runs our monthly classes. After receiving a degree at High Point University, she attended Institute of Culinary Education where she honed her skills and developed a deep appreciation for the art of pastry making. After graduation, she worked in some of the top pastry kitchens in the world, gaining valuable experience and perfecting her craft. Bilena is the vision behind the brand at Settepani, she overseas out marketing and works side by side with Chef Nino to constantly evolve to pastry program at Settepani, where she is responsible for creating the restaurant's dessert menu, managing our e - commerce, and overseeing the pastry line of products. She brought a fresh and innovative perspective to the business, when she decided to help her family bring Settepani forward instead of folding when times get tough. More about today’s guest Costa Arènte is located in the village of Romagnano at an elevation of 250 meters above sea level, surrounded by vineyards on three sides. From the farmhouse, a 35-hectare estate with 17 hectares planted with the Verona Pergola and Guyot training systems, one’s gaze wanders across the landscapes of the Valpantena and among the peaks of the Lessini Mountains. For the local people, we are “La Costa”, which means “the hillside” in the local dialect and refers to the most valuable plots of land. The article “La” – “The” – is a seal of quality, because this hill is a benchmark for the entire area. Over the years, while passing through the traditions and agricultural transformations of the area, La Costa has always maintained a great rural vocation for the bounty of its land and its strategic position.
