Gene was a casual Roman Catholic who rarely practiced, unlike his devout parents and wife, Cindy, who attended church regularly with their daughters, Amanda and Amber. Though he drifted from churchgoing as a teenager, Gene always believed in prayer, often praying for the sick.One day, he noticed an elderly man with a curved spine and, feeling grateful for his own good health, he prayed to take on the suffering of others. Shortly after, Gene was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. Days later, while mowing his lawn, he suffered a massive heart attack. His daughter Amber called 911, and paramedics rushed him to the hospital. On the way, his heart stopped, and he had a near-death experience, finding himself in a bright white space, feeling an overwhelming sense of peace. Just as he neared a mysterious doorway, voices called his name, and he woke to find himself in the hospital.Doctors diagnosed him with severe heart damage requiring major surgery. While in intensive care, his daughter Amanda gave him a crucifix necklace, and upon wearing it, Gene felt an intense spiritual awakening. Later, he encountered a grieving woman whose husband was in a coma. Overwhelmed by a powerful force, Gene grasped her hands and prayed with her, feeling divine energy flow through him. The experience left him emotionally drained but reaffirmed his belief in God's power.Looking back, Gene felt deeply connected to something beyond earthly existence, believing he had experienced the presence of God and the Holy Spirit firsthand.
