New Mexico State Penitentiary Riot (Part Two: The Hate Factory)

New Mexico State Penitentiary Riot (Part Two: The Hate Factory)

In the early morning hours of February 2nd, 1980, a dozen inmates at New Mexico's State Penitentiary took four prison guards hostage. Within an hour, more than ten guards would be taken captive, and hundreds of inmates were freed from their cells. The facility, which had been made aware of the dangers in the months preceding the riot, had done little to prepare for it. The rioting inmates made easy work of the lax security protocols meant to keep them at-bay, and - within hours - had free rein of the entire prison. What would follow would be hours of bloodshed... the likes of which were nearly-unparalleled in American history. As prison officials and law enforcement struggled to gain control of the situation, they quickly learned that they had underestimated the unadulterated rage that had been festering for years... Part two of three Written, hosted, and produced by Micheal WhelanLearn more about this podcast at unresolved.meIf you would like to support this podcast and others, consider heading to patreon.com/unresolvedpod to become a Patron Music CreditsXenojam - "Chtonic"ROZKOL - "Hell Slime"How the Night Came - "IV - C6H807"Blue Dot Sessions - "Thread of Clouds"Parvus Decree - "Hive Mind"ROZKOL - "The Institute Laboratories"Kai Engel - "Silence"Other music written and composed by Ailsa Traves and Monty BucklesBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/unresolved--3266604/support.

New Mexico State Penitentiary Riot (Part One: Powder Keg)

New Mexico State Penitentiary Riot (Part One: Powder Keg)

Throughout the 20th century, the New Mexico State Penitentiary earned a reputation of being, ironically, a lawless place - where violent and non-violent prisoners were forced to co-exist in cramped and deplorable conditions.Violence was constant, and certain cell blocks were allowed to run rampant over others. To make matters even worse, the prison's revolving door of wardens through the 1970's kept implementing changes, but just ended up creating vacuums... which were only ever filled with apathy and disorder. This eventually reached a head in the final days of 1979, when rumors of a vicious uprising began spreading through the facility. Prison officials thought nothing of it at the time, but in the early morning hours of February 2nd, 1980... the powder keg could no longer be contained.Part one of three Written, hosted, and produced by Micheal WhelanLearn more about this podcast at unresolved.meIf you would like to support this podcast and others, consider heading to patreon.com/unresolvedpod to become a Patron Music CreditsOKAM vs ps - "Understanding the Limits of Symbiotic Echolocation"Parvus Decree - "First Encounter"Murmurous - "Fathom"Other music written and composed by Ailsa TravesBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/unresolved--3266604/support.

Sunset Limited Derailment

Sunset Limited Derailment

In the early morning hours of October 9th, 1995, Amtrak's Sunset Limited - which regularly traveled between coasts - slipped off of the tracks in rural Arizona. As investigators began looking into the cause of this wreck, they discovered that this was no accident. A group (or an individual masquerading as a group) had conspired to make this derailment happen, leaving four copies of a rambling & poetic "manifesto" at the crime scene. All four letters were signed with the same moniker: "Sons of the Gestapo" (or, abbreviated, "S.O.G."). Despite an investigation that has spanned more than two decades, looked into extremist groups across North America, and offered up a $310,000 reward, the train's saboteurs have never been identified. Written, hosted, and produced by Micheal WhelanLearn more about this podcast at unresolved.meIf you would like to support this podcast and others, consider heading to patreon.com/unresolvedpod to become a PatronThis episode features a promo for my friends Shea and Erin, who host the informative & entertaining podcast All Crime No Cattle Music CreditsOKAM vs ps - "Exploring the Convoluted Singularity"Squire Tuck - "What Will Be Will Be (Organ Remix)"The Gateless Gate - "Approaching Snow Squall"Graham Bole - "Nae Shaam"How the Night Came - "I - HNO3"ROZKOL - "The Fruit Will Rot"Chris Zabriskie - "I Used to Need the Violence"Alan Spiljak - "Forgotten"Forlon - "Roembden Crater"Other original music created and composed by Ailsa TravesBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/unresolved--3266604/support.

San Francisco John Doe #60

San Francisco John Doe #60

On June 15th, 1985, the body of a young man was found in San Francisco's SoMa district.Despite being unable to learn the man's identity, police quickly discovered that the young man had been tortured and mutilated before his death. Just days after his discovery, the Santa Ana Orange County Register declared that the victim had been "bled to death and that he was butchered in ritualistic fashion in a type of devil-worship ceremony."Two years later, a violent convict confessed to having covered up the crime for his former-lover and roommate. The following investigation and trial would unearth a cult that had been preying on San Francisco's most vulnerable... or did both fall prey to the decade's rampant Satanic Panic? Written, hosted, and produced by Micheal WhelanLearn more about this podcast at unresolved.meIf you would like to support this podcast and others, consider heading to patreon.com/unresolvedpod to become a PatronThis episode features a promo for the podcast Murder Mile, which provides an interesting take on the true crime genre MusicCreditsROZKOL - "The Fruit Will Rot"Percival Pembroke - "North Atlantic Treaty Organization"Rec008 - "Contemplation"Sergey Cheremisinov - "Sleepwalker IV"Other original music created & composed by Ailsa TravesBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/unresolved--3266604/support.

LeRoy Carter Jr.

LeRoy Carter Jr.

LeRoy Carter Jr. was a Vietnam veteran, who returned to the states and struggled to get his life back on-track. He became a transient, who spent several years trying to stay out of jail for a litany of petty crimes. On the evening of Saturday, February 7th, 1981, Carter found a quiet alcove along Alvord Lake, in the scenic-yet-troubled Golden Gate Park, where he proceeded to fall asleep. The next morning, a young woman found Carter's "blood-spattered" backpack in Golden Gate Park - which she immediately turned into police. When an officer arrived at the park to investigate the origins of the bloody bag, he had no idea he was about to make one of the most horrifying discoveries in California history... Written, hosted, and produced by Micheal WhelanLearn more about this podcast at unresolved.meIf you would like to support this podcast and others, consider heading to patreon.com/unresolvedpod to become a PatronThis episode features a promo from my buddy Adam, who hosts Point Blank: A True Crime Podcast Music CreditsOKAM vs ps - "Slit View of the Rapture"Yan Terrien - "Rose Baba"How the Night Came - "III - H3PO4"Rest You Sleeping Giant - "Themes From Frost"Alan Piljak - "Flying Away"Other original music created & composed by Ailsa TravesBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/unresolved--3266604/support.
