Nottingham Forest 3-0 Barnsley: The 1865 Match Report

1865: The Nottingham Forest Podcast is proud to partner with FanHub and The Terrace. Forest continued their winning ways by seeing off bottom side Barnsley in front of a bumper Tuesday evening crowd of 27,000 at The City Ground. After a quiet opening, Forest took the lead on 15 minutes when Keinan Davis dispossed Mads Andersen, before striding through and slotting the ball into the corner for his first goal in a Reds shirt since joining on loan from Aston Villa. Steve Cooper's side doubled their lead seven minutes before the break as Ryan Yates finished off a flowing move, which involved an incisive Jack Colback pass to release Brennan Johnson down the left, where he put a superb cross in which Yates tapped home, timing his run into the box perfectly. A slow start to the second half saw little action but Forest stepped it up again and added a third on 75 minutes. Djed Spence carried the ball down the right flank, seeing off the attention of several Barnsley defenders, he rolled the ball inside where Johnson stroked it first time into the far bottom corner to cap off a comfortable victory. The Reds saw an effort by Steve Cook saved and a Xande Silva strike hit the post as they went on to secure a win which moves them closer to the Championship playoff places. Steven is joined by Tom Newton to reflect on Forest's win, including the influence Brennan Johnson is having on the side, how Forest got the job done on the night and Steve Cooper's post-match comments, where he made reference to 'that' Charlton game and was keen to avoid a repeat, following the high of the Derby victory on Saturday. Nottingham Forest 2-3 Chelsea: The 1865 Premier League Match Report

On a day when Forest were confirmed as "all but safe", the Reds failed to rubber stamp their Premier League status as they conceded two late goals to money bags Chelsea. In truth, Forest didn't look like a worse team than their wealthy counterparts, until the subs were made, which strengthened the visitors and weakened the hosts. Steven Toplis is joined by Baz to discuss a topsy-turvy game which the Reds probably should have won, and also whether we can really feel secure as the spectre of Stoke City continues to haunt Forest fans. A much-needed three points, as despite scoring first through ex-Red Ben Brereton Diaz, the Blades proved how bad they are at defending, allowing Callum Hudson-Odoi to score two of his trademark goals, sandwiching skipper Ryan Yates' first Premier League goal. Nottingham Forest 0-2 Manchester City: The 1865 Premier League Match Report

A creditable performance, but Forest missed their chances and the champions took theirs. Everton 2-0 Nottingham Forest: The 1865 Premier League Match Report

Everton 2-0 Nottingham Forest: The 1865 Premier League Match Report

The key fact is that Forest lost a relegation six-pointer, to two long range goals. The underlying facts are that there were three clear penalty shouts waved away, including (at least) one where the ref clearly got it wrong but VAR chose not to correct him. The headlines go to the club's tweet on the full-time whistle, which accuses PGMOL of bias and suggests that the club will explore their options, whatever that means. Rich Ferraro is joined by Tom Newton, fresh back from Goodison, to discuss a poor game of football, refereeing decisions, and the post-match comments. Mike from the Unholy Trinity Podcast (our Sports Social stablemates) also offers his opinions on the penalty shouts. We'll discuss the fall out in this week's Friday Five news roundup, later in the week - it's going to be a spicy week before the Man City match next weekend.
