The Dallas Stars blew out the Chicago Blackhawks by an 8-1 final on New Year's Eve. Mason Marchment had a hat trick in route to a four point night and completing back to back games for the Stars with hat tricks when Roope Hintz did it two nights prior. Tyler Seguin had 3 points and only three players left the game without a point for Dallas. On today's episode of Locked On Stars, Joey believes this is a glimpse of how great the Stars can be. Obviously, the Blackhawks are one of the bottom five teams in the league, but the dominating nature of the win makes him think this could be their potential. Included with that is the play of the defense, it's important that the Stars defensive core plays great in their own zone, but also produces offensively and December has show that. Miro Heiskanen had 15 points in the month, Thomas Harley had 11, Jani Hakanpaa and Esa Lindell are chipping in as well and with the personnel Dallas has currently, they must play this way to have ultimate success. The Dallas Stars fall to the St. Louis Blues by the final score of 2-1 last night out of Christmas break. Jason Robertson scored the lone goal for Dallas off a pass from Roope Hintz. Scott Wedgewood was phenomenal especially on the penalty kill, but Joel Hofer for St. Louis made 39 saves to hand Dallas a lost. The show opens with Joey's main takeaways from the game which include the Stars were the better team for the majority of the contest, but once again fall into a two nothing hole. Eventually, it will catch up to you and it did last night even though they out-chanced the Blues 31-11 in the game. The game was open and not as physical as expected so both sides had good looks offensively and one goalie was just a bit better. The 2nd segment praises the incredible PK for the Stars that once again killed off an entire 2 minute 5 on 3 and double minor consecutively to keep them in the game heading into the 3rd period. Jani Hakanpaa and Esa Lindell have been outstanding as almost an exclusive duo on the penalty kill and went 4-for-4 yesterday. The final segment dissects a power play that has gone bone dry, they are now 0-for-16 and have not scored in five straight games. Their entries have been the main point of interest for Joey who speculates they've struggled to find open ice and generate off the rush as of late. The Dallas Stars return from Christmas break tonight to face the St. Louis Blues on the road after a thrilling victory against Nashville last Saturday. On today's episode of Locked On Stars, Joey looks ahead at a 10 game stretch for the Dallas Stars that could be crucial for their chances to win the central division. Six out of the ten games are against teams not in the playoffs, seven out of ten are home games and nine of them are against central division opponents. The Stars have a 6-1-1 record in division and now have won four straight home games, currently tied for first with Colorado, the Stars can make a statement in the next 10 games and have a chance to solidify themselves at the top and hopefully get more out of players like Wyatt Johnston who have been goal less in the month. The next segment is an in depth look at the Blues and why it's so important for the Stars to match their physicality. Both meetings this season have gone to overtime and the rough and heavy style of the Blues has been apparent in the matchup this season. Jordan Binnington in net for the Blues has played well against the Stars in his career, but Jason Robertson is someone to look out for who has had his way with St. Louis in his young career. Coming out of the Christmas break for the National Hockey League, Joey begins today's episode of Locked On Stars discussing the unbelievable win the Dallas Stars had against the Nashville Predators on Saturday. The Stars made history by becoming the first team to score the tying goal and go ahead goal in the final 15 seconds of regulation. Craig Smith and Jani Hakanpaa were the two goal scores along with Evgenii Dadanov to erase a two goal deficit in the 3rd period. The two biggest takeaways for Joey over the last week is tightening up defensively and being able to win from behind. The Stars lead the NHL with 12 come from behind wins this season. We then segway into a conversation about the power play that is 0 for the last 14 opportunities. Dallas has been able to win without it by holding opponents off the scoresheet on the man advantage, but it could make life much easier if they get it rolling again. Joey offers some solutions and why he thinks the power play has slipped over the past week. The show wraps up by praising Scott Wedgewood who has put up a 9-1-2 record in 12 games this season and has been an anchor since Jake Oettinger went down with an injury.
