Episode #7- Jeff Symonds on Getting Ugly, Success, Pressure and How The Desire For Perfection Can Be Paralyzing

Jeff Symonds has earned a reputation for getting ugly. From his epic win at Challenge Penticton following a bike crash at 60kph to the infamous Ironman World Championships in 2016 when he rode with one leg for the last 10km of the bike, Jeff is not shy about digging deep when it matters. Over the years he has racked up an impressive resume on the pro triathlon circuit including a podium finish at the World 70.3 Championships in 2011 and winning the Ironman Asia Pacific Championships in 2014.

But it has not always been easy. Over the years Jeff has struggled with his own demons. His desire for perfection, at times, has left him paralyzed, frustrated and void of any joy for the process. The lows after bigger successes were often self-destructive and left him contemplating retirement. Thankfully Jeff has reconnected with his roots and found new energy in the process.
