The myth of 8 hours sleep. Sleep expert Nick Littlehales #197

The myth of 8 hours sleep. Sleep expert Nick Littlehales #197

The idea behind this podcast is you will potentially sleep longer, definitely sleep deeper and better and be more well refreshed the next day. How's that for aiming high? I think we can do this.

Nick Littlehales is a world renowned Elite Sport Sleep Coach, has been redefining and innovating a new human sleep approach or as he describes it mental and physical recovery, for over 22 years.

In this podcast he talks about the myth of 8 hours sleep.

He's big into working with sports stars, and as you'll hear has worked all around with the world with some of the most famous athletes, including with the world's best footballer according to many - Cristiano Ronaldo. I'm sure you know who he is. Nick's helped him sleep better.

In fact, he works with many finely-honed athletes and during this interview I asked Nick to think of me as one them. Which is very much wishful thinking.

I started by asking him about the myth of 8 hours sleep.

Slowing down to create more energy with Natural Health practitioner Beverly Meyer #22

Slowing down to create more energy with Natural Health practitioner Beverly Meyer #22

Slowing down and calming down to create more energy. It's almost like a contradiction in terms. But it works, and that's why meditation/trance/hypnosis/chillout time is so popular for people. This week's Zestology podcast guest is fascinating, and contains some important themes. One is slowing down a bit to create a huge store of stamina and energy. Amen. We need to talk about this more. All of my audiobooks on iTunes have a similar theme using hypnosis and NLP skills to calm the mind, get into more of an Alpha State, and activate the parasympathetic nervous system. And with my cool guest - blogger, podcaster and Natural Health practitioner Beverley Meyer - I have a similar mind that we can really get going on this subject - slowing off and switching off for more energy and feeling great. Beverley also specialises in the area of nutrition and we tackle some fun foody subjects too. We delve right in and get technical around how good coconut oil is to encourage you to burn fat for fuel (great if you want to tone up and get an energy boost from your food). Then things get a bit crazy, like for instance, have you ever put coconut oil in your tea? Or on your face? And in your food? And if you haven't ever supplemented with Vitamin K2, you may want to after listening to this. When you listen, you'll hear: Living with more energy Coconut oil provides a unique kind of saturated fat that helps your body burn fat for fuel. [5:00] If you struggle with digesting diary, experiment with ghee (or clarified butter) into your diet. [7:00] The human body digests and repairs itself when we’re in a slower, more relaxed state. [13:56] The importance of stamina and a solid pace. [19:48] The importance of Vitamin D and Vitamin K2. [29:20] Easy, everyday tips for vitality The benefits of non-hydrogenated plant fats like macadamia oil, avocado oil, and olive oil. [9:10] Passionflower supplements. [10:15] How to elevate your calves on a wall or a chair to mimic the same benefits of a nap. [21:03] Why food needs to be first. [35:20] Finding motivation The best way to create more energy is to slow down [00:20] Why men and women need to adhere to different nutritional plans [6:00] How GABA works as the “brakes” of your brain and helps you slow down [12:05] The Beta state [13:07] The person that does the least is the most active [20:13] For more information Nutrition and Physical Degeneration Beverly's popular health site ondietandhealth.com

Feeling energetic and hot! With Thyroid Pharmacist Dr. Izabella Wentz #21

Feeling energetic and hot! With Thyroid Pharmacist Dr. Izabella Wentz #21

Did you know that taking a simple sauna twice a week could spark a complete change in your energy levels? (Hence the title of this blog.) This just one of the interesting, unusual and crazy ideas in today's Zestology Podcast. Interested in making some small changes for big results? Listen/read on. My guest is someone with a wide amount of expertise in this area. Dr Izabella Wentz has written a hugely popular and well received book on Hashimotos. (Never heard of Hashimotos? It turns out that Hashimotos is really much more common than anyone thought so we look at that at the start of the show). We also dive straight in general health improvements and yes, sauna therapy. We go into this into a bit of depth, including the uh, sauna incident that left Dr Wentz rather surprised and shocked. And surprise surprise, it’s a regular theme, we look at nutrition and health and the role that has to play in your overall wellbeing and energy levels. It’s one of those shows where we go deep, especially at the start, and I love that. There's some real depth in this podcast. I’m honoured to have a real expert in her field on, so let’s speak to Thyroid Pharmacist, Dr Izabella Wentz. ----------------------------------- JOIN the Zestology MAILING LIST by going to our website (http://www.tonywrighton.com) Connect with Tony on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/tonywrighton If you love the show, please take a moment to rate & review it on iTunes. The caveman approach to a healthy heart, body and life with Paleo Cardiologist Dr Jack Wolfson #18

The caveman approach to a healthy heart, body and life with Paleo Cardiologist Dr Jack Wolfson #18

Today we’re looking at the caveman approach to a healthy heart, body and life with a guest who's got a great story to tell. We dig deep into gluten. What's the deal with gluten? What are the probs? Why are so many people giving it up? How can doing so improve our energy and wellbeing? Also, if you suffer from Hay Fever, please do listen to today's episode. There are a whole load of natural methods for dealing with the streaming eyes, runny nose, and general stuffiness that Hay Fever brings on. My guest is Dr Jack Wolfson, the author of the Paleo Cardiologist. He was a conventional cardiologist, a Director of Cardiac Rehabilitation and a very successful heart doctor. But deep down, he was perhaps unsatisfied until he met his future wife, who came from a very different background. I’ll let him tell the story in the podcast, but together they formed a new approach to heart health. I’m pretty sure you’ve heard of Paleo, but just in case you’ve been living in the dark ages, (actually if you have you might know about Paleo) click here for the brief rundown. When you listen you'll hear: Living with more energy What is the modern “good life” [6:38] The impact that pharmaceuticals have on your body and gut (it’s not pretty) [7:55] Why it’s important to get to the root cause of a health issue versus simply prescribing more medication [8:31] Why the foundation of any Paleo diet Pyramid should always be vegetables. [12:10] The American Food Pyramids is outdated and wrong. What your daily diet should consist of instead [13:45] Easy, everyday tips for vitality A high quality multi-vitamin should be on everyone’s “to do list” whether you’re young or old. Be sure there are no artificial colors or flavors included! [27:20] Start your day with a green dehydrated vegetable powder to decrease inflammation and cardiac risk every morning [28:55] If you’re trying to introduce your kids to a Paleo lifestyle, try swapping out traditional treats with gluten-free and organic options instead. [34:11] Statins work (according to research paid for by pharmaceutical companies) but there are also harmful side effects that come with their usage. Find better options here. [19:50] Finding motivation Three great rules to live by are: gluten-free, organic, and soy-free. Here’s why [23:00] Here’s what gluten actually does to your body [25:00] “It’s hard to get a man to understand something, when his job depends on not understand it” [18:50] Go to sleep with the sun down and awake with the sunrise [37:00] ANNOUNCEMENT: Today's Zestology is also exciting as we have some new music that is pretty awesome, from British DJs Above and Beyond. They are one of the world’s biggest DJ acts, absolutely huge all around the world, their biggest gig I think was 1 million people on Rio beach at Carnival time, and they are also great guys too. They very kindly have agreed to let me use one of their tracks as the new music for Zestology. Take a listen and let me know what you think of our new Above and Beyond music. And thanks again to A&B - awesome work!

The meditation gadget that could change your life. (Maybe). With elite performance coach Dr. Stephen Simpson #17

The meditation gadget that could change your life. (Maybe). With elite performance coach Dr. Stephen Simpson #17

There’s a new gadget that claims to improve your mental fitness. It’s a headset called Muse, that syncs up with the iphone to help you, apparently, begin feeling the benefits of a calmer, more composed mind. It makes use of EEG technology that only a few years ago would have cost 1000s. Now it’s just around £300 ($450). And I’ve got one here... I decided to test it out with my first repeat guest on Zestology podcast - definitely back by popular demand. Dr. Stephen Simpson is an Elite Performance Coach, medical doctor, and NLP expert who specialises in a fascinating field. He's developed the niche of helping poker players win more money. We chatted about poker in Zestology episode 2, today though I wanted to explore the topics of intuition, altered states, and how when we tap into these we can increase our energy and wellbeing. He’s the perfect person to do this with as you’ll hear. In this podcast, we explore luck, intuition and altered states, and of course test out this new Muse headset gadget which is a lot of fun. Thank you Steve for being the guinea pig.

Happy stomach = increased energy and happiness with digestive expert and podcast host Sam Bearfoot #16

My personal development background is in NLP and related more to focusing on the mind. But I want Zestology to look at every area of our physical and mental health, and I know personally that when my digestion is good, I feel good. Likewise, when it's not, I feel sluggish and slow. I definitely have my ups and downs with digestion and gut health, hence today's show. Today's Zestology Podcast guest is someone who goes by the name of The Digestion Detective. Sam Bearfoot runs a successful practice here in the UK, combining kinesiology, nutrition and a number of different areas of expertise. She also hosts the popular Digestion Detective podcast and is regularly featured in major health and lifestyle publications such as Health & Fitness magazine, Daily Mirror, Prima and Cosmopolitan. She's a bit of a ledge. When you listen you'll hear: Living with more energy How to work out: what agrees with your body and what doesn't. You've heard about the importance of drinking water, but do you know when to drink it? How the crazy technique of putting your legs above your head might change your life! Whether you should be eating gluten. Easy, everyday tips for vitality What kinesiology is and how it can help you. How muscle testing might help you. What probiotics to take, and where to buy them. What to do if you've been on antibiotics at any point over the past couple of years (important). Despite everything you hear, be careful with raw food. Why - listen on. Finding motivation Your emotional wellbeing is intrinsically linked to your digestion. Make your body run super-efficiently, and notice how you feel. And lots more...
