Serene Thin Elk | Connecting to Our Spiritual Ancestral Lineage

Serene Thin Elk | Connecting to Our Spiritual Ancestral Lineage

Can connecting with our ancestors help us see the sacredness in moments of deep crisis and grief?

This week, Thomas sits down with Serene Thin Elk, a Lakota/ Dakota mental health and addiction therapist and speaker, for a vulnerable and moving conversation on ancestral healing, intergenerational trauma, grief, and collective wisdom.

Serene shares her journey, driven by a need to understand her own and her community's suffering, including the intergenerational effects of historical trauma on Indigenous peoples. Through grief and loss, she discovered the importance of an integrative, holistic approach to healing, combining Western therapeutic techniques with traditional Indigenous ceremonies and spiritual practices to reconnect with ancestral wisdom and manage dysregulated nervous systems.

She and Thomas discuss the importance of processing personal grief before addressing collective trauma, and explore frameworks for honoring loss and maintaining relationships even after death.

The Healing Art of Integration

The Healing Art of Integration

Thomas Hübl shares practices and perspectives to help us navigate the challenges that may arise as many of us gather with our families and communities for the holidays. In situations where differing opinions and issues from childhood can often lead to tension, reactivity, and conflict, it sometimes feels impossible to stay grounded, present, and spacious enough to handle these moments. With practice, we can learn to recognize our emotions, know how they feel in our bodies, and gain a better understanding of our inner experience so that we can integrate what arises. Then, we can transform difficult moments into opportunities for growth and connection. Or, we can see more clearly when the healthy decision is to walk away.Thomas explores how we can train ourselves to be more regulated so that we can approach relational challenges with curiosity instead of judgment, and create space to host discomfort and disagreement with fluidity, maturity, and love.✨ Sign up for updates by visiting our website: 👉 https://pointofrelationpodcast.com Thomas Hübl, PhD, is a renowned teacher, author, and international facilitator who works within the complexity of systems and cultural change, integrating the core insights of the great wisdom traditions and mysticism with the discoveries of science. Embodying Hope

Embodying Hope

Thomas offers insights on how we can generate and maintain hope, exploring hope as a skill and a practice rather than just a belief. He defines hope as the presence of agency—something that we can actively influence and co-create with each other. Many who have suffered trauma find it difficult to maintain presence and tend to view this as a negative thing. But Thomas offers a different perspective. He explains that being pulled “out of the moment” is an intelligent function that helps us survive traumatic events.Instead of fighting our feelings and pathologizing our lack of presence, we can actually achieve more groundedness and connection by integrating our wounds, allowing ourselves to feel our feelings, and observing our tendencies with compassion and creativity rather than judgment. In an interconnected world, we each contribute to a brighter future by doing our inner work and sharing the wisdom that comes from it.✨ Sign up for updates by visiting our website: 👉 https://pointofrelationpodcast.com Thomas Hübl, PhD, is a renowned teacher, author, and international facilitator who works within the complexity of systems and cultural change, integrating the core insights of the great wisdom traditions and mysticism with the discoveries of science.
