Cleveland Cavaliers Lose to Boston Celtics, Defense and Rebounding Concerns Arise

On this episode of Locked On Cavs, Danny Cunningham (The Inside Shot, Cleveland Magazine, 92.3 The Fan) analyzes the Cleveland Cavaliers' disappointing 125-105 loss to the Boston Celtics on October 29th, focusing on the team's alarming rebounding deficiencies against an undersized opponent. Danny examines the concerning performances from Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley, who were outworked by a Celtics team ranked 29th in defensive rebounding. The podcast explores why Boston's depleted roster still managed to dominate the hustle stats with 18 offensive rebounds and 23 second-chance points, while Cleveland's two elite big men failed to establish their presence on the glass. Danny provides crucial perspective on why fans shouldn't panic despite these troubling trends, emphasizing that the Cavs are missing three of their top seven players in Darius Garland, Max Strus, and Sam Merrill, and noting the team's grueling schedule of four games in six nights across four cities. He highlights Jaylon Tyson's breakout performance as the lone bright spot, with the rookie posting a team-high 19 points on 8 of 11 shooting while demonstrating the confidence and hustle that was largely absent from the rest of the roster, and concludes with a reminder that championship-caliber play is built gradually through the season rather than required in late October.
