#62 - The Political Agenda Behind Anti-Human Trafficking Laws w/ Dr. Tamara O'Doherty of SFU's School of Criminology

I am very excited to bring on Dr. Tamara O'Doherty of Simon Fraser University's School of Criminology. SFU is my alma mater and is the #1 school in the nation (Canada) for Criminology so I was super stoked to invite Tamara onto the show to share her expertise, research and findings on the topic at-hand this week. As sex workers, we are are deeply affected by the anti-human trafficking laws the were enacted by governments around the world. We've mentioned this particular topic a countless number of times on the podcast and it continues to be brought up due to its negative impact on sex workers. In Canada, Tamara and I speak about Bill-36 which was enacted in 2014 by Stephen Harper and the Conservative government, dissecting on how confusing the verbatim and title were as well as the political agenda behind it. On a parallel note, we discuss the USA's SOSTA/FESTA which was enacted in 2016 by the Trump administration (and even earlier by the Bush administration) and the cuts it has made on the sex industry. In addition to this, we speak briefly about the Nordic model or "asymmetrical criminalization" of sex work and what that means for sex workers. As a former graduate of SFU's School of Criminology, I value Tamara's expert opinion, research and advocacy on the topic. I will be guest lecturing in her class on April 5th, 2021 - stay tuned for a future bonus episode! #61 - A Gendered Approach to Sex Work, Third Party Management and Legal Proceedings w/ Dr. Tuulia Law, Jennifer and Janie from Work Safe Twerk Safe

We've got a few bodies onto the show today! I am super excited to invite Dr. Tuulia Law, Jennifer* and Janice* from Work Safe Twerk Safe onto the show today! It's a 50/50 split in today's episode where I spend the first half of the episode speaking with Dr. Law from the Criminology department of York University discussing her extensive work and research in sex work. I ask her why this research is so sorely needed and why she decided to take the academia route. We then dive deeper into her specific work involving third parties and management within indoor forms of sex work and the challenges she has seen, the findings that have been drawn to her work and where we see her research taking her. The second half of the episode is spent not only with Dr. Law but also her co-founder, Jennifer, and colleague, Janice, from Work Safe Twerk Safe, a stripper-led organization based in Ontario, Canada that provides access to legal aid, resources, and workshops for sex workers in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). We discuss the excellent work that they are doing, how and why they decided to organize and everything that they currently offer. We also discuss their current ongoing legal case against the Government of Toronto (hint: THEY WON THEIR CASE LAST WEEK!) and the aid that they are seeking for their causes. I loved discussing everything that they are doing to help sex workers and it is 100% worth a listen! Be sure to listen to the full episode to see how you can help their cause. *Aliases were used to protect my guests' identity. www.worksafetwerksafe.com Work Safe Twerk Safe's GoFundMe Campaign Tax and Financial Literacy Workshop - March 18th @ 4pm EST Legal Action Update twitter.com/twerksafe Don't forge to LIKE, RATE, SHARE, REVIEW and SUBSCRIBE! @strippedbysia @siasteph twitter.com/stephsia www.stephsia.com https://www.patreon.com/Strippedbysia

#60 - The Ultimate Guide to Selling Your Used Panties w/ Dalma Rosa of the Panty Selling Podcast

#60 - The Ultimate Guide to Selling Your Used Panties w/ Dalma Rosa of the Panty Selling Podcast

Oooooh, this is a good one. And I'm ashamed to admit I haven't done an episode on this subject but here goes! This week's episode is all about selling your used panties. Has this thought ever come across your mind? Maybe it piqued your interest while watching the last couple seasons of Orange is the New Black? Perhaps you may have considered it. Even if you haven't, you'll still want to listen in to this episode as I have got the ultimate guest on this week to share the ins and outs of this business: Dalma Rosa of the Panty Selling Podcast! Dalma has been in the panty selling game for the past two years and has been so gracious to share her mistakes, tips, and overall expertise on the world of used panties. No, selling used panties is not just a stereotypical thing that Japanese men are into (nor do we even discuss the on the pod!) but it is a viable source of income and is an industry that is thriving. Dalma and I discuss the marketing around buying and selling, the logistics when it comes to shipping your used goods out (and best practices on how to preserve the scent!), safety and security surrounding your pictures and videos, the types of underwear are the most popular, where her clients are located, and so much more. That, and we'll be discussing Dalma's other ventures that she has started since this whole thing unexpectedly blew up for her. Tune in and maybe we'll be seeing you on one of the many used ware sites on the web! Dalma has also been so generous to give listeners of Stripped by SIA 20% off all available courses on PantySellingSchool.com as well as 10% off all purchases on Pantygasm.com using code "SIA" at checkout. #59 - Check Yourself: Undoing, Unlearning and Unraveling w/ AMD of Yes, a Stripper Podcast

Just keeping the momentum going here with super strong, incredible and knowledgeable guests in the sex worker space making a difference and making waves. I invited AMD of the Yes, A Stripper Podcast to come onto the show to speak intimately about her experiences stripping in LA, the realization of her white privilege, the gentrification of strip clubs in LA, social media monitoring censorship, amputation and more. I get up close and personal with AM as she lets us into her world. This serial entrepreneur opens up about her various ventures in both sex worker advocacy (Soldiers of Pole) and the pole dancing world (United Pole Artists and Everybody Visible) and the divide that has been going on FOREVER and what her thoughts on it in this current environment. No conversation in regards to the policing of sex work is complete without a mention of FOSTA/SESTA and we briefly touch on that topic in regards to the censorship that's happening in our space. There are a lot of things that we discuss and some excellent Q&A questions from the audience. #58 - Fight or Flight: Movement as Therapy w/ Nicky Ninedoors

Get your seatbelts on. I've been trying to get this week's guest on the show since Season 1 and she's finally here. Please welcome Nicky Ninedoors on the show! Nicky is an all-around artist. She is a well-known burlesque dancer, stripper, pilates and pole dancing instructor, healer, singer, pianist and so, so much more. She was able to let us in to her private life and lead us down on how she got started in the biz. From her roots in burlesque to overcoming her whorephobia to start stripping four years later and now, dancing virtually online at the Cellar Door Strip Club, she has been on a wild ride! The bulk of this episode also has a lot to with past sexual trauma and how she is choosing to cope with that: through physical movement. Nicky discovered that staying static hurt her body and that by continually moving, the pain hurt less. She gives us a psychological breakdown of what our bodies go into in fight or flight moments, how much cortisol we need, and even to further explain mere glances our parents did or did not give us growing up. It is a fascinating lesson and I'm so glad she was able to share her wealth of knowledge with us this week. We also briefly speak about her Stripper with a Camera venture, battling censorship and SOSTA/FESTA and more. It's a long episode but trust me, you'll want to listen to in its entirety. #57 - To Hell with the "Bad Mom" Stereotype: Motherhood and Sex Work w/ Lil Kat

#57 - To Hell with the "Bad Mom" Stereotype: Motherhood and Sex Work w/ Lil Kat

We've all heard the negative stereotypes when it comes to sex work, but it gets worse when you or if you decide to bear a child. Calgary-based stripper, Lil Kat, joins me on the show this week to speak about the additional struggles of being a mom AND being a sex worker. The mislabeling of sex worker moms is a tired double standard which continues to happen to this day. We discuss Sigmund Freud's Madonna/whore complex which is still perpetuated to all moms today, regardless of their occupation; however, it hits harder when it comes to sex workers. Lil Kat opens up about the challenges she currently faces as a dancer which come from outsiders looking in, friends and family and even her partner. But it's not all negative - we also discuss the pros of being a sex worker during pregnancy, working conditions in corporate jobs vs. the sex industry, and the perks of creating content on your own time on various platforms (Lil Kat uses Premium Snapchat, OnlyFans, and her own direct site). Oh, and I spill a little tea on the Elle Stanger controversy which you can look up on your own time! @lilkatattack twitter.com/lilkatattack tiktok.com/lilkatattack Don't forget to LIKE, RATE, SHARE, REVIEW and SUBSCRIBE! @strippedbysia @siasteph www.stephsia.com twitter.com/strippedbysia https://www.patreon.com/Strippedbysia

#56 - An Erotic Masseuse's Happy Ending: Adult Spas, Exit Plans and Branding w/ Lexie Caldera

#56 - An Erotic Masseuse's Happy Ending: Adult Spas, Exit Plans and Branding w/ Lexie Caldera

It may have taken me 56 episodes + 18 bonus episodes BUT I've finally sourced an erotic masseuse fit for the show! Thanks to a fellow listener and fan (thanks Dan!), I bring Canadian erotic masseuse, Lexie Caldera, onto the show to speak about her experience working in adult spas. What actually goes on behind closed doors? How do you give a happy ending? Are extras include? How does the whole thing work!? Lexie explains it ALL to us in major detail so you'll want to be listening closely. She also invites us in deeper into her personal life about she how she started sex work as a teen advertising on Craigslist, how she navigated through coming out to her conservative family, hitchhiking and train hopping all throughout Canada and more. I could have literally talked to her forever about this stuff (so interesting!) but Lexie also gives us the down low on how to effectively brand yourself as a sex worker and how freakin' important it is to save money, plan for the future and create an exit plan, and not just blow it all away in one go. It's a super insightful episode and I'm ashamed that it took me so damn long to find a suitable guest for this topic but I assure you that it is well worth the wait! @lexie.caldera www.lexiecaldera.ca twitter.com/lexiecalderaxo facebook.com/lexiecalderaxo Don't forget to LIKE, RATE, SHARE, REVIEW and SUBSCRIBE! @strippedbysia @siasteph www.stephsia.com twitter.com/strippedbysia https://www.patreon.com/Strippedbysia

#54 - A Crash Course on Indigeneity, Indigenous Performanceship and Responsible Kink w/ Lynx Chase

#54 - A Crash Course on Indigeneity, Indigenous Performanceship and Responsible Kink w/ Lynx Chase

I'm baaaaaaaack! It's 2021 and although I had released a bonus episode last week, I am really kicking things into high gear with this week's guest, Lynx Chase, who is officially ringing in 2021 on the pod! Lynx is a Metis, French and Lithuanian stripper, burlesque artist and kinkster who I have been dying to speak with FOREVER. They are a wealth of knowledge when it comes to BDSM and kink positivity and which they happily shed light on. A bulk of the episode goes into speaking about their Indigenous ancestry and what that means for them. Identifying in one of the most marginalized minority groups, I ask Lynx on their experiences of being of mixed ancestry. We learn a bit about Indigenous history in Canada (also applicable to the USA) and how this painful colonization has played in their Indigeneity, sexuality, and performanceship. We also go into their dancing with the Indigenous burlesque troupe, Virago Nation, their stances on responsible dominance in the kink community and how Aladdin played a part in their sexual awakening as a kid. All this and more on this week's episode - tune in! @aylaylay_ Burlesque West: Showgirls, Sex, and Sin in Post-War Vancouver by Becki L.
