It has been said that you can use a glass mirror to see your face, and you can use works of art to see your soul. Art opens doors to passion, spirituality and connection. The art of nature can cause this part of you to vibrate with awe and joy in the simple form of a sunset. They happen every day and we should line up to see them. What is it all about?

Behind everything you do there is an urge or need. People have found meaning in the face of death, in times of need, hunger, celibacy and danger. Your genes have a need to adapt and replicate, your body has a need to survive and thrive, your soul wants to connect and express itself and your mind has a need to understand. The want of them, is where you are heading, this very moment, the need of them, is what lies underneath.

In the adventure of exploring you and the cultural garden you are grown from, you may regard the source of these wants, as something beyond your body and mind. Putting words on it can be like trying to hug a dolphin in a sea of olive oil where the waves seek to become your friends. It cannot be ignored more than having a butterfly on your nose and acting like you don’t. It is a part of you beyond you that may have been there even before you. For some it is a fairy tale and for some it is more real than the ground under your feet. In each case it will be up to you.

As you explore the souls around you, you may find them lost, happy, young, old or just soulful, full of that mystic ingredient that makes it so. When you meet somebody whose personality vibrates in congruence with your own, you may call it kindred, and in some cases even a mate.

A lot of people create their belief about who they are early on and hold on to this identity dearly because it provides a sense of predictability and certainty for everybody involved. However, neuroscience has shown that your brain has an amazing plasticity that allows you to learn new things and change as long as you live. This includes your beliefs about yourself. Your self-esteem is a collection of beliefs about your value, and is in many ways more fiction than fact. If you do your best you are good enough, stating anything else is defying gravity. You were born being enough, and your life is a process of finding out how much more enoughness you can develop on the way. This is why it is best to compare your progress with your earlier self and using the enoughness of others for inspiration. The past you, the future you and the present you are the same team, Team You. Be the support you need. Find the best ways you can collaborate on this adventure. Take full responsibility for you, by holding yourself accountable in a positive way for everything you do. Instead of regretting a mistake, find out what you need to do differently and do that. Who you are is a story told by many, including yourself. Feeling good about yourself relies on defining yourself as a work of art in progress rather than an outcome.
