Our 2025 Wrap-up: Fighting "Inshitification" and the Pivot to Real-World Impact

It's our second-last episode of the year, and the last is New Year's Eve, so this is a 2025 wrap-up!

David has picked out some of his favourite moments from the podcast this year and is exploring two big themes: the "human-first restoration" (a rebellion against the "inshitification" of digital platforms) and the "impact pivot," where tech’s greatest minds (we think) are abandoning viral clicks to solve for water, power, and human rights. Obviously some aren't, but we're looking for the positives here folks!

Featuring insights from pioneers like Jack McCauley and 'Rabble' Evan Henshaw Plath, we examine how the most honest conversations are finally making our technology more human.

Today's show is split into two subjects. First we're off to Ireland to talk to Workhuman's David Burke, Director of Talent Acquisition and Employer Brand. In the second half I talk to Jim Tiller about cyber warfare and the Ukraine. How are we helping repel attacks and what does cyber activity teach us about modern conflict. I've written a short piece on the back of the conversation too: https://www.harveynashgroup.com/post/why-collaboration-is-key-in-digital-warfare

We hear from a tech platform that helps you get moving!

Today we start with a chat with two founders creating a fitness app for the everyday 'Joes'; a platform to motivate you all year round through friendly, team-based motivation. Then we talk to Hylo Athletics. Returning guest Michael Doughty describes the importance of community as we find out how their trainers (or sneakers if you're in North America) are helping the planet. Whilst we love making the podcast, right now global events have shown how irrelevant what we do really is. If you wish to support the British Red Cross Ukrainian Crisis fund (and have the means to), here is a link to do so: https://bit.ly/3C4pWly
