Episode 32 - Ross Hutchins Interview

Episode 32 - Ross Hutchins Interview

In December, British Davis Cup player Ross Hutchins was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma. Last week, he announced that he is putting on 'Rally Against Cancer' - a doubles exhibition featuring Andy Murray and Tim Henman on finals day at the Aegon Championships (Queen's Club) to raise money for the hospital treating him. In this edition, we talk to Ross about the plans for Rally Against Cancer, how he is now, and the support that he has had from fans, fellow players, and in many cases, total strangers.

Madrid - Nadal vs. Alcaraz is on; Ons Jabeur steps up; Disappointing scheduling

David and Matt get stuck into the main talking point from the last few days in Madrid. What's different about Ons Jabeur this week? Why will so many people be happy if she wins the title? And what's going on with the scheduling which made Jessica Pegula and Jil Teichmann walk out to a practically empty stadium for their semi-final? On the men's side, disappointment about Andy Murray's withdrawal ahead of facing Novak Djokovic is made up for by excitement about Carlos Alcaraz vs Rafael Nadal. We discuss all four players, as well as a much-needed strong performance from Felix Auger-Aliassime, and Andrey Rublev's stress on court. We also pay tribute to former US Open and Wimbledon finalist Kevin Anderson who announced his retirement this week. What do we make of Emma Raducanu's decision to split with Torben Beltz? And how do we judge Naomi Osaka on clay after one win and one defeat? On the men's side, there's chat about an exciting half of the draw featuring the returning Rafael Nadal as well as Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz. We also discuss a thrilling week from Frances Tiafoe in Estoril and maiden titles for Sebastian Baez and Holger Rune. Finally, we speak about the downfall of Boris Becker after he was sent to prison on charges related to his insolvency. Pam Shriver’s Story: Me, my coach, and the dangers of crossing boundaries

This is Pam Shriver’s story. In an interview with Catherine, she reveals publicly for the first time that she had an inappropriate and damaging relationship with her much older coach, which began when she was 17 and lasted for over five years. Pam tells the story from the beginning, describing how it affected her tennis career and her personal life for many years. She is doing this to try to help young athletes, coaches and the governing bodies to recognise and understand the importance of boundaries, and the dangers of crossing them. Hosted on Acast. There's also a round up of what happened in the Billie Jean King Cup, including poignant scenes at the tie between United States and Ukraine, as well as Emma Raducanu's pro level debut on clay. Looking ahead to this week, there's lots of excitement about Stuttgart, not least because Bianca Andreescu is back. Hear her talk to Catherine about why she's chosen now to return, why she felt she needed a break last year, her love of clay, and of course how she keeps in touch with Coco when she's on the road.
