About buses and trains in Singapore not having timetables

When I came to Singapore, there was something that surprised me.

It is that buses and trains do not have timetables.

In Japan, there are timetables at bus stops and stations.

You can usually know what time they will come.

So people move by checking the timetable.

But in Singapore, it is a little different.

At bus stops, it does not say exactly what time the bus will come.

At train stations, it also does not show exact times.

When I look at a smartphone app,

it says things like “it will come in 10 minutes,”

or “it will come soon.”

But that is not a fixed schedule.

At first, I was not used to it.

I kept thinking, “When will it come?”

I look at buses that are driving by.

I check if the bus number I want is there.

That was a little difficult.

But buses and trains in Singapore run very frequently.

So if you wait, they come soon.

They come faster than I expect.

You usually do not wait very long.

Because there are many buses and trains,

I started to feel that I don’t need to worry too much about time.

Little by little, I started to like this feeling.

It feels like I am not chased by time.

It makes me feel a bit relaxed.

Now, I think waiting time is not so bad.

This waiting time has become part of my daily life.

I feel that a life without timetables is not so bad.
