In 1994, Gordon Wardell went on TV claiming a gang of men in clown masks had attacked him, tied him up, robbed a building society… and murdered his wife, Carol.

Which is… a lot.

Carol Wardell was a devoted sister and daughter, quietly getting on with her life — not the kind of person you’d expect to end up at the centre of something this violent.

So how does someone like that end up strangled and left at the side of a road?
