It wasn’t a house anyone would call haunted. Just an older place where people gathered, had dinner, and didn’t think too much about the space around them.

One night, during a normal dinner, someone stopped mid-sentence and asked if anyone else was in the house. He thought he saw someone move down the hallway.

Then came a small sound from that direction—just enough that more than one person noticed. Before it could turn into anything, the homeowner brushed it off and moved the conversation along.

Later, she admitted there had been moments where she thought someone else was there when she was alone. Nothing she couldn’t explain. Nothing she wanted to turn into more.

And maybe that’s the part that stands out. Not what happened. But how quickly it was decided… what it wasn’t.
