Valuing Black Art in an Ever-Changing Entertainment Industry (Ep.10)

Valuing Black Art in an Ever-Changing Entertainment Industry (Ep.10)

This week on TWWD, we’re tapping into something that’s been sitting heavy but also lighting a fire inside: believing in Black Art in a moment where the industry loves the culture but keeps side eyeing the creatives. I promise this isn’t a lecture. It’s a real conversation rooted in love, lived experience, and a little bit of Aquarius season delusion in the best way.

Jer reflects on the creative shift in the air, the kind that sparks new ideas and louder questions. From watching films like Sinners finally click for me to unpacking why Black brilliance keeps getting snubbed, this episode is about recognizing patterns we’ve seen for generations and naming them out loud. We get into how Black art sets the tone globally while Black artists are still asked to shrink, soften, or explain themselves just to be taken seriously. We talk music, film, fandom, labels, and the exhausting double standards that show up when Black artists are bold, honest, or fully themselves. I also share pieces of my own journey navigating the industry, the wins, the disappointments, and the moments that made me realize talent alone has never been the issue. Value has always been the conversation.

We also highlight artists who continue to push through despite the noise, the doubt, and the uneven playing field. This episode is about choosing belief over bitterness, truth over aesthetics, and community over competition. If you’ve ever felt the shift, questioned the system, or needed a reminder that Black art is not a trend but a foundation, this one is for you. Press play, get comfortable, and let’s wind down while we talk about why believing in Black art is not optional, it’s essential.
