264 - Richmond II: Taking Your Ride

264 - Richmond II: Taking Your Ride

Door Bumper Clear is back from a weekend at Richmond Raceway. Brett Griffin, T.J. Majors and Freddie Kraft start out by talking about Freddie’s 40th birthday celebration the previous night. Then, they discuss why the two-round qualifying format needs to be changed. Plus, the crew tries to decipher Freddie’s show notes he wrote at 5:00 am.

In Spot On, Spot Off, the guys discuss Kyle Busch running Ty Gibbs up the track then Gibbs repaying the favor while battling for 15th in Stage 2. They question if Busch should be racing Gibbs that aggressively and what it says that Gibbs didn’t back down from the challenge.

Kyle Busch got tagged by Ross Chastain in Turns 3 and 4 and said in a post-race interview that he was Chastain’s victim this week. The gang explains why Chastain has consistently been one of the fastest cars every week and debates whether or not other drivers will make his championship run easy.

Next, they discuss how the Next Gen car has raced at short tracks this year. The spotters debate the quality of Richmond’s racing and whether or not the track deserves two Cup Series races.

Then, Kyle Busch was asked if there is a strategy to get Martin Truex Jr. in the playoffs and compared the question to the 2013 Michael Waltrip Racing scandal. Brett discusses if team orders are allowed and references the Richmond race when Clint Bowyer questionably spun late. Hear Bowyer's former spotter explain details about what forced NASCAR to drop the penalty hammer on MWR. Then, the guys debate if Denny Hamlin would help Truex Jr. or Bubba Wallace win to get into the playoffs at Daytona.

Carson Hocevar wrecked Nick Leitz during the Truck Series race at Richmond and has now caused two wrecks in two playoff races. The spotters explain why Hocevar potentially wrecked him to stay on the lead lap and if he should be penalized.

Asking prices for charters have reached $20 million according to Adam Stern. Brett explains how teams are gaining equity from the charter system, what teams are in the market for one, and why NASCAR needs to invest more in the lower series.

In Reaction Theatre, fans express their thoughts on whether or not Richmond was an entertaining race, Kevin Harvick going for back-to-back wins, and a lullaby for Sunday’s race.
