Lakers Frontrunners To Sign Rajon Rondo Following Grizzlies Buyout | Rajon Rondo Lakers 2021 Rajon Rondo is set to don the purple and gold once again. After being bought out by the Memphis Grizzlies, ESPN NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski reports that the Los Angeles Lakers are the most likely team to sign the 15-year veteran. Rondo will clear waivers on Monday and will likely be signed to fill the final available roster spot with the Lakers, sources tell ESPN NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski. Rajon Rondo has bounced around the league quite a bit in the last 12 months. After winning a title with the Lakers in the bubble in 2020, he signed a two-year, $15 million contract with the Atlanta Hawks. From there, he was traded to the Los Angeles Clippers for Lou Williams, two second-round picks and cash considerations. After an underwhelming performance in the 2021 postseason with the Clippers, Rondo was sent to Memphis alongside Patrick Beverley and Daniel Oturu in exchange for Eric Bledsoe. Rondo thrived as a member of the Lakers just a season ago, hitting 40 percent of his three-point attempts in the postseason and looking like their third-best player at times. The Lakers will need Rondo to reach these numbers again next season, as they are already low on floor-spacing after acquiring a shaky shooter in Russell Westbrook. The veteran guard will be in competition for the backup point guard role with Kendrick Nunn, whom the Lakers acquired earlier this offseason. Nunn is significantly younger than Rondo (age 26 as opposed to 35), and could provide more of a scoring punch off the bench. Even if he doesn’t see much playing time this season, Rondo offers a veteran presence in the locker room that LeBron James and Frank Vogel both value.
