Perry shares his experience as an alcoholic, beginning with his first intentional drunk at 11 years old, blackout drinking, juvenile institutions, jail, burglary, repeated chaos, and the family wreckage that followed him into adulthood. He talks about the moment when a gun threat and his daughter’s fear gave him a sudden glimpse of what his life had become, the prayer that followed, and the people in Alcoholics Anonymous who took him in, sponsored him, worked the Steps with him, and showed him how to live.
