Satelliten können die Erde beobachten und helfen, Gesundheitsgefahren zu erkennen. Sie bewerten auch aktuelle Risiken für bestimmte Gruppen von Menschen. Die Technik aus dem Weltraum kann auf viele Arten zur allgemeinen Gesundheit beitragen. Zum Beispiel beobachten Satelliten die UV-Strahlung. Das ist wichtig, weil zu viel UV-Strahlung schwere Krankheiten wie Hautkrebs verursachen kann. Dank Satelliten können Experten die UV-Werte bis zu fünf Tage im Voraus vorhersagen. Satelliten und Wettermodelle registrieren auch die Luftverschmutzung, die mit vielen Gesundheitsproblemen in Verbindung gebracht wird. Die Vorhersagen informieren schnell über schlechte Luftqualität – fast überall auf der Welt. Diese Informationen stehen in vielen Apps zur Verfügung. Außerdem können Satelliten Pollen und andere Stoffe in der Luft messen. Das hilft Menschen mit Allergien. Sie bekommen Tipps, wie sie auf Pollen reagieren können und was sie beachten sollten.
