Anisha & The Abuser She Thought She Could Fix

Anisha & The Abuser She Thought She Could Fix

In this episode of Narcissist Apocalypse, Anisha shares the story of an introduced marriage that quickly became emotionally and physically abusive. What began with criticism, confusing outbursts, and attacks on her identity gradually expanded into isolation, career control, threats of divorce, verbal degradation, and severe physical violence. Through it all, Anisha kept searching for an explanation. As a healer, optimist, and problem solver, she believed that if she could understand her husband's wounds, communicate more effectively, become a better wife, or find the right help, perhaps she could finally reach him and change their marriage.

As the violence escalates, Anisha begins recognizing that the problem was never her inability to fix the relationship. She also encounters another painful layer of her story when some of the people and organizations she turns to for help misunderstand, minimize, or retraumatize her. Eventually, support from her family, education about abuse, and one powerful question from a therapist help Anisha stop searching for evidence that her husband might change and begin looking at the evidence of who he had consistently shown himself to be. Anisha also shares how she rebuilt her life, healed from the trauma, and transformed her experience into advocacy for other survivors.

It's a story of criticism, confusing outbursts, attacks on her identity, isolation, coercive control, threats of divorce, verbal degradation, severe physical violence, minimization, retraumatization, second abuse, the healing process, victim-playing, arranged marriage, introduced marriage, victim blaming, blame shifting, gaslighting, denial, walking on eggshells, confusion, cognitive dissonance, trauma bond, intermittent reinforcement, cycle of abuse, escalating abuse, criticism disguised as self-improvement, loss of independence, financial abuse, protecting the abuser, PTSD, empathy, restraining orders, and overfunctioning.
