#72 The Thing on the Roof | Kelly-Hopkinsville, Part One: The Night

August 21, 1955.

On a quiet farm outside Kelly, Kentucky, eleven people settle in for an ordinary Sunday night.

There is nothing remarkable about the house. No telephone. No television. No radio. Just a few light bulbs, a hand pump out back, a dog in the yard, and twenty-eight acres of farmland stretching into the darkness.

Then something appears in the field.

Small. Shining. And moving toward the house.

What follows over the next several hours will become one of the most famous close-encounter stories in American UFO history. Something approaches the farmhouse. Something moves across the roof. Something reaches through a window. The people inside shoot at it, retreat from room to room, and eventually flee to the police.

But this episode isn't about explaining what happened.

Not yet.

Part One is the night itself. The Kelly-Hopkinsville encounter told from inside the farmhouse, from the first strange sighting through the long night and into the aftermath.
