Episode 11: The Invisible Backbone of the Healthcare System

Caregivers of family members suffering from dementia, Alzheimers, or other long-term needs are the invisible backbone of the healthcare system in the United States. Currently, 53 million people are serving as caregivers to family members. As they give care, who is caring for them? Dr. Anna Thomas, a palliative care physician, joins us on this episode to discuss how caregiving is like leadership, and that leadership includes caring for their own needs. Join us for this enlightening discussion as we explore: - Ways caregivers can step into the role of the CEO of the care team. - The importance of reframing self-care and asking for support as part of your care strategy. - How others, including employers, can support caregivers. Dr. Thomas shares her Confident Care Leader Framework that helps caregivers step into this challenging leadership role. If you aren’t a caregiver, chances are you either know someone who is, you will become a caregiver in the future, or you will be the one who needs care. As a result, everyone can benefit from Dr. Thomas’ expertise. Dr. Anna Thomas is a palliative care physician, speaker, author, coach, and caregiver advocate dedicated to empowering women balancing caregiving and professional careers. As the founder of LifeCare LeadHership and author of Dementia Care Confidence, she combines over 10 years of medical expertise and personal caregiving experience to deliver impactful strategies for thriving in life, work, and caregiving.
