E148 The Expertise Trap: Why You Can't Explain What You Do

The more expertise you have, the harder it is to explain what you do simply.
On this episode of Rabbit, Rabbit: Redefining Work & Life, I name a pattern I see constantly in smart, capable women building something of their own: the expertise trap. The more you know, the more nuance you can see, so your brain defaults to giving the complete answer instead of the simple one. That is why your about page still sounds like a resume, why your elevator pitch keeps changing, and why your LinkedIn headline lists five things separated by dots.

I break down where this pattern comes from, why it served you for ten or twenty years in a corporate job or another brand environment, and why it stops working the moment you are building something of your own. I share what this looked like for us at OOO-Marketing when we expanded past our original network and had to learn how to talk about the new thing without leading with our old titles.
Then I walk through the framework I use with every client and in our own business: One Person, One Problem, One Outcome. Not a demographic. Not a list of services. A specific person, a specific problem, a specific outcome, whether you are pivoting out of a corporate career, building a personal brand, or trying to sell your art for the first time.

Getting specific is not exclusion; it is recognition.
