Paul isn't describing the world out there; he's describing the climate among us in here — a redeemed people learning to live it out. Matt walks the marks of that culture: truth-telling because we are members of one another, anger that gets dealt with before sundown, work that's generous instead of grasping, speech that builds up and gives grace, and the hard, beautiful center of it all — forgiving one another as God in Christ forgave us.

A few things to carry into your week: - We tell the truth because we belong to each other — saying "I'm fine" when we're not quietly weakens the whole body. - Don't let the sun go down on your anger: get curious about what's underneath it instead of dressing it up as "irritability" and handing the enemy a foothold. - The gospel doesn't just stop the old behavior; it turns us outward — the thief becomes the one who works in order to give. - Putting away bitterness isn't trying harder; it's submitting to the Spirit and crying out, "Help me — I can't forgive this on my own."

"When you forgive someone, you pay the price for their offense — with grace you've been given, not grace you produced. Who is God asking you to forgive?"
