Fractured Sands_ The New Map of the Middle East

Fractured Sands_ The New Map of the Middle East

The Middle East we grew up reading about in textbooks is effectively disappearing. For decades, the region was defined by rigid Cold War alliances and an unwavering focus on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. But today, that map is being redrawn in real time. It began with the 2020 Abraham Accords, a historic turning point where several Arab nations decided to prioritize economic and security cooperation with Israel, essentially setting aside the traditional peace processes of the past. It felt like a new era of pragmatism, but the stability was fragile. The October 7 attacks in 2023 acted like an earthquake, shattering the illusion of a quiet status quo and forcing the Palestinian issue back to the absolute center of regional politics.
