What Was Waiting at the Top of the Stairs? | Real Ghost Stories

For years, strange things happened in his father’s townhouse that were easy enough to explain away individually.

A strange feeling when someone walked into a room. The sense that something had just moved out of sight. Objects falling for no obvious reason. Nothing that absolutely proved anything.

Then one afternoon, while he was home alone studying, something started moving around upstairs.

At first, it sounded small enough to be an animal. Then it sounded like a child running across the floor. Eventually, it sounded unmistakably like an adult.

Frustrated and unnerved, he finally shouted upstairs for whatever was making the noise to stop. It did.

And then the footsteps moved directly toward him.
