Shouting at your partner. Calling them names. Criticising them in ways that put them down. Most people who do these things don't think of themselves as abusive. They think of it as having a short fuse, or saying things they don't mean in the heat of the moment. But what you call it doesn't change what it does to your partner. Emotional abuse isn't always constant or extreme. It can be a pattern of smaller behaviours that together create an environment where someone walks on eggshells.

This episode speaks directly to anyone who recognises those behaviours in themselves. It isn't about shame. Many people who act this way grew up in households where that was simply how conflict was handled. They didn't choose it, but they can choose to be different.
