EDVINSSON "PREFERS A TRADE" and LCA Boos Larkin, Ilitch - Oct. 4th, 2026

Simon Edvinsson reportedly "prefers a trade", & this Detroit Red Wings podcast is fuming over the botched Red Wings contract talks behind it. Plus, Red Wings vs Rangers & Jets recaps, from Dylan Larkin & ownership's opening-night boos to Sunday's 3-2 loss.

(00:00) - Intro

Two games into the season and the off-ice circus has already made them feel meaningless.

(03:05) - Simon Edvinsson Trade Report

Elliotte Friedman reported Saturday night that Simon Edvinsson would prefer be traded, frustrated with how Detroit has handled negotiations. Why a 15-month contract standoff lands on Chris Ilitch and ownership, especially after Edvinsson voluntarily reported to camp.

(24:15) - Contract Numbers & Cap Space

Why Detroit has to eat the "you suck tax" and pay up even if the AAV creeps toward $12M (well over Moritz Seider's), with worlds of cap space over the next three seasons. Plus, what an Edvinsson trade could bring back & whether Horcoff could win that deal.

(39:25) - Fans Boo Dylan Larkin

Standing with the healthy scratches, Dylan Larkin got what might be the loudest boo in Little Caesars Arena history before the "sell the team" chants kicked in. Also, is his trade request the same as Edvinsson's situation?

(49:05) - Rangers Home Opener Shutout

Marco Kasper fought Sean Durzi, and the defense hasn't allowed a five-on-five goal through two games, but the Red Wings are 0-2. Dylan Garand earned his first career shutout as the top line with Andrew Copp at center barely registered.

(56:35) - Jets Loss & Finnie Centering

Down 3-0 on three power-play goals, Detroit answered with Viktor Arvidsson's first goal of the season, follow by Emmitt Finnie centering a reshuffled line with MBN & DeBrincat. Todd McLellan called it Michael Brandsegg-Nygard's best game as a Red Wing.

(01:04:35) - NHL News - Bettman Comments & Barkov Injury

Gary Bettman says no-trade and no-move clauses weren't meant for situations like this and the NHL will take a look. Also, Barkov on LTIR for at least 10 games, which revives talk of Florida as a Larkin trade partner.

(01:09:50) - Overtime Mailbag

Your questions on Lucas Raymond's quiet start, Patrik Laine rumors and whether big minutes help or hurt the young guys' trade value. Plus why an offer sheet longer than five years may be unlikely.
