Obama throws his support behind Keisha Lance Bottoms in Georgia governor race .

Former President Barack Obama has officially thrown his support behind Democratic nominee Keisha Lance Bottoms in her bid for Governor of Georgia.

Released on October 8, 2026, Obama's video message featured the exact quote you mentioned, emphasizing her impressive résumé as a former judge, city council member, and mayor while calling on Georgians to cast their votes for her.

Bottoms is competing against Republican billionaire healthcare executive Rick Jackson in the November 3, 2026, general election to replace term-limited Governor Brian Kemp.

During the video, Obama commended Bottoms' tenure leading Atlanta, pointing to her track record of securing pay increases for law enforcement and maintaining balanced city budgets without tax hikes. He also championed her key policy initiatives, including Medicaid expansion, cost reduction, and universal pre-K access.

This endorsement arrives just before Georgia's early voting window opens on October 13, 2026, with leading nonpartisan analysts characterizing the race as genuinely competitive.

While Georgia functions as a purple swing state rather than a solidly Democratic stronghold, it's essential to review official Georgia election records and state voter databases for historical partisan patterns and state office control. Consequently, mounting a campaign as a woman or minority candidate in Georgia presents formidable challenges; despite notable progress, substantial structural and electoral obstacles persist.

Victory demands extensive grassroots voter engagement. Given the state's deeply divided electorate—where conservative rural regions dominate Republican support and progressive urban and suburban areas favor Democrats—candidates from underrepresented communities must mobilize unprecedented turnout among Black and Latino voters to counterbalance the entrenched conservative rural vote.
