Former gang boss gets 40 years to life in Tupac Shakur murder case

Former gang boss gets 40 years to life in Tupac Shakur murder case

On October 13, 2026, Nevada District Court Judge Carli Kierny spoke with deep compassion as she delivered those meaningful words, just before sentencing former gang leader Duane "Keffe D" Davis to 40 years to life in prison.Judge Kierny's heartfelt remarks were directed toward Davis, acknowledging his role in orchestrating the tragic September 7, 1996, drive-by shooting that claimed the life of beloved rap icon Tupac Shakur. She concluded her statement with understanding yet firmness, telling Davis, "Especially when that man is Tupac Shakur. The world never forgot about him and his death, and neither did Las Vegas. Took us 30 years, but at this time, you are going to face justice".

Following an extensive multi-week trial in August 2026, a 12-person jury found the 63-year-old Davis guilty of first-degree murder with a deadly weapon. Prosecutors compassionately yet clearly demonstrated that Davis served as the "shot-caller" who orchestrated the retaliatory act after Shakur and his companions confronted Davis's nephew at the MGM Grand earlier that evening.

Judge Kierny imposed a substantial sentence of 20 years to life for first-degree murder, along with an additional mandatory 20 years to life weapon enhancement, recognizing that Davis had sought to benefit from the tragedy through a tell-all memoir and media appearances.

Before the sentencing, Shakur's sister, Sekyiwa, and stepbrother, Mopreme, shared deeply moving victim impact statements that touched all present. Sekyiwa poignantly expressed that she had endured 30 years without her protector, emphasizing that Tupac represented "so much more than street violence".

"Keefe D" Davis's legal representative has compassionately confirmed their commitment to challenging his conviction and the substantial 40-year-to-life sentence he received for his involvement in Tupac Shakur's tragic 1996 death.

Defense attorney Carl Arnold thoughtfully outlined his intention to submit the appeal during the required 30-day timeframe, recognizing the gravity of the situation and the importance of exploring every available legal avenue for his client.
