How to prepare for an interview in 2026: what actually helps

How to prepare for an interview in 2026: what actually helps

Sixty three percent of job seekers have now been interviewed by an AI, and most were never told upfront. This episode looks at how to prepare for an interview in 2026, and at why practice on its own changes so little.

Rehearsal sets the repetitions. Feedback tells you which repetition was wrong. A 2008 Clemson study found recruiter ratings rose when practice was followed by feedback, and that higher anxiety in the final interview predicted significantly lower suitability ratings. Structured interviews predict job performance at .44 against .33 for unstructured ones, which is why the interview you face is usually a fixed list scored against a rubric.

Also covered: how many mock interviews are enough, what employers say they are not getting, and what to practise first in a flat market.
